It’s been widely described as a bumper crop of kicker prospects. There’s no debating that Florida State’s Roberto Aguayo is at the top of the list, but there are a handful of quality place kickers this year.
ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper provided a quick synopsis of some of the better prospects.
“In terms of the kickers he’s the number one kicker,” said Kiper of Aguayo. “He would’ve had a higher grade last year, but he had some misses this year and was more accurate last year, so he wasn’t graded as high as he would have been. He’s the number one kicker. Zach Matics of Appalachian State is right in there. Brad Craddock from Maryland. Ka’imi Fairbairn from UCLA. Jaden Oberkrom from TCU. Ross Martin from Duke. There’s a lot of kickers that have ability this year, but I think he’s the best of the group. I’d say probably third to fifth round for Aguayo.”
As many as four kickers could be selected in the draft this year. Aguayo, Fairbairn, Martin and Liberty’s John Lunsford have the best chance of being drafted.
