The financial number crunching gurus at Spotrac have put together what they believe will get a long term contract extension done with Bills CB Stephon Gilmore, who is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.
Spotrac calculated the average annual valuation at $12.9M per year on a five-year deal, but indicated a contract that is a shade over $13M per season is more likely.
Typically when agents want a higher average annual salary the team looks to add an additional year as Spotrac projects in the estimated extension for Gilmore (6 yrs, $80M.
Josh Norman’s unexpected deal with Washington has not helped clubs as it inflated the market value of cornerbacks and probably wasn’t even necessary.
I’d expect the Bills to try to get a long term deal done that fits somewhere between Cleveland’s Joe Haden ($13.5M/yr) and the Giants Janoris Jenkins, who signed for ($12.5M/yr).
