With the signing of CB Marcus Roberson and CB Damian Parms, in addition to LB Carlos Fields Tuesday, Buffalo has just one vacancy left on their 10-man practice squad. Position-wise however, it’s clear that cornerback was a priority. Here’s a look at the position breakdown for Buffalo’s practice squad.
CB – 3 – Doran Grant, Damian Parms, Marcus Roberson
With just five cornerbacks on the roster a long-term injury could prompt the Bills to call one of these three up to the active roster in short order.
WR – 2 – Matt Hazel, Dezmin Lewis
Buffalo just added a sixth receiver to the roster in Brandon Tate on Tuesday, though he’s primarily seen as a return man. If one of their outside wideouts goes down, Lewis figures to be the call-up.
LB – 1 – Carlos Fields
An inside linebacker, Fields will be a call-up consideration should injury strike at that position.
DE – 1 – Max Valles
Valles is more of an outside linebacker than a defensive end, as he’s listed, in Buffalo’s 3-4 scheme. In fact that’s where he lined up for all of training camp and the preseason.
G – 1 – Gabe Ikard
Ikard is a true guard and is the likely call-up should swing guard Ryan Groy be pressed into the starting lineup due to an injury to starters Richie Incognito or John Miller.
K – 1 – Jordan Gay
As previously mentioned on this page, having Gay on the practice squad gives them the option to call the kickoff specialist up in a given week if they determine he offers the best advantage against a certain kick return unit. In fact with Devin Hester just signed by the Ravens, that might be a consideration this week.
