Marcell Dareus suffered a hamstring pull late last week in practice. Knowing it hasn’t been a week yet since sustaining the injury, it’s clear the Bills athletic trainers are taking a slow and steady approach with the defensive tackle’s recovery.
When asked if he was willing to put odds on his chances to play Sunday, Dareus chose not to.
“I don’t know. I’m working with the trainers,” he said. “We’re trying to put it together and try to work my way up to running.”
Dareus confirmed that he pulled his hamstring when he went all out to catch EJ Manuel on a scramble out of the pocket.
“I had a little pull,” he said. “It just kind of keeps you from going all the way and opening up.”
And that’s what makes hamstring injuries troublesome. You feel fine walking, jogging and you can even steadily build up to running. It’s when you try to make that sudden burst to accelerate that you pull it again.
“They’re a little tricky,” said Dareus. “If you get out there a little too soon it can re-occur. So you want to make sure it’s treated properly and that it’s ready to go before they let you go.”
