The NFL today announced the full list of team nominees for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award. Nominated by the Buffalo Bills, is Dunkirk High School varsity football coach Mike Sarratori. The award recognizes the very best at the high school level in terms of integrity, leadership and commitment to player healthy and safety.
This year, Sarrotori led the Dunkirk Marauders to their first sectional title in school history. The Marauders then defeated Batavia (Section V) in the state tournament to advance to the NYSPHSAA Class B semifinals. In recognition for the standout season, Sarrotori was selected as the Bills and ADPRO Sports High School Coach of the Year for the Buffalo region. On Dec. 18, Sarrotori and each of the Coach of the Week winners from both the Buffalo and Rochester regions were honored on-field prior to the Bills vs. Browns game.
In celebration of Sarratori’s accomplishments, he and the other 31 team nominees received a special invitation to the 2017 Pro Bowl in Orlando. During the week-long celebration the group will be able to visit Pro Bowl practices, participate in the USA Football National Conference and more. In addition to their exclusive Pro Bowl experience, two award finalists will each be given $15,000 from the NFL Foundation—where $10,000 will go to each recipient’s high school football program.
The winner will be announced during the third quarter of the Pro Bowl.
