QUOTE OF THE DAY
Dan Carpenter, Buffalo Bills Kicker
Q: Can you sum up why you wanted to stay in Buffalo?
A: It’s a great organization. My wife and I very much enjoyed everyone that we’ve met here, worked with here and the fans are great. Even when I was playing against Buffalo in my Miami days I’ve always recognized how great the fans have been here and their support of the Bills. For us it was a no brainer to come back to Buffalo. We were comfortable and loved it here last year. To be able to go back somewhere and be wanted where you would like to go, you’re very fortunate in this league for that to happen. We’re very happy to be here and excited to see where it goes.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Aaron Williams, Buffalo Bills Defensive Back
Q: As far as being a free safety and playing with range, would the fact that you played corner your whole life have helped you to be able to control the deep half when you need to?
A: Being with Coach Henderson, he really helped me out with how to be rangy like Jairus has been for us the last few years. It takes repetition and practice. Yeah I’ve been at cornerback, but sometimes I’d goof around and be a safety. I think my rookie year I played safety for our scout team for a little bit. It’s never just been about cornerback. I’ve always tried to help my craft out anyway possible. I think moving to safety, it helps me. My man coverage is a lot better, I’m obviously good in the box and my range, and I’m perfecting it a little more. I keep studying film and seeing other players like Jairus and Earl Thomas and other great safeties like Troy Polamalu. See what they do and what makes them great. Match my game and how can I increase my value in the backfield.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills Running Back on The John Murphy Show
On if DB Aaron Williams has the right stuff to be a leader on the team:
“Yeah, he does. They see the same things I do and the same qualities that I see. There’s a guy that can assume that leadership role on that defense, a guy that can be vocal. He’s going to have a lot to say on things that go on in that defense and the communications part of it. You want a guy out there that is vocal and knows what he’s doing. He’s one of those guys that can pick up a defense well and relay messages to everybody, especially at safety he’s seeing the whole field. He’s one of the best people that they can have do that. We like the things that he brings to the table, so as long as he’s willing to step in and take that role, which he is, the sky is the limit for him.”

BDC 3/5: Bills Postpone Toronto, Extend DB Williams

Posted by Bills Daily Charge on March 5, 2014 – 1:50 pm

billsdailycharge1
DAILY REPORT
Russ Brandon, President & CEO of the Buffalo Bills, and Keith Pelley, President of Rogers Media, issued the following statement today:

“The Buffalo Bills and Rogers are committed to delivering a first-class NFL experience to Canadians.  As such, we have postponed for one year the scheduled 2014 regular season game at Rogers Centre in Toronto, and that game will return to Ralph Wilson Stadium.  We will use this time to collectively evaluate opportunities and build on the foundation to enhance future games.

We are committed to continuing our partnership and have secured a robust sponsorship agreement for the 2014 season that will bring Canadian NFL fans visibility and access to the Bills.  The sponsorship includes ticketing, merchandising, media exposure, and a newly created Canada House, near Ralph Wilson Stadium, that will serve as the official pre-game Canadian tailgate zone for all Bills home games.

The NFL remains very popular in Canada and we are dedicated to enriching the experience for the fans.”

– The Buffalo Bills today announced that DB Aaron Williams has signed a contract extension with the team. In accordance with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Aaron Williams is a versatile player who has grown into a key playmaker for our defense in recent years,” said Buffalo Bills General Manager Doug Whaley.  “He had an extremely productive season for our defense in 2013.  Aaron is the type of young, core player we targeted early in the process to retain for years to come and this will be our philosophy moving forward.  By building on his improved play in 2013, we expect Aaron to continue to grow into a key contributor for the Bills organization.”

Williams played in and started 14 games in 2013 and tallied a career-high 82 tackles (60 solo) and tied for the team-lead with four interceptions.

The 6-0, 199-pound Texas product joined the Bills as a second-round (34th overall) draft selection in 2011 and has posted career totals of 144 tackles (111 solo), five interceptions, 23 passes defensed and two forced fumbles.

QUOTES OF THE DAY
Russ Brandon, Buffalo Bills President and CEO on WGR 550
On evaluating the Toronto series further:
“It’s very similar to what we talked about back in December. We’re going to go in to a full evaluation of everything regarding the initiative. We have great partners there with Rogers and they’ve been outstanding to work with and we’ve been embarked in discussions with them since the last game against Atlanta. We’re going to review everything from the game day experience and ticket pricing and all other facets of the project. We’ll make determinations of the series moving forward after we go through a lengthy review and see where it takes us form there.”

Aaron Williams, Buffalo Bills Defensive Back
On signing a contract extension with the team:
“Just want to thank Russ (Brandon), Doug (Whaley) and Jim (Overdorf) for allowing me to sign long-term with the Bills. It’s been a great opportunity and I’m very blessed to have a great opportunity to be with a team like this. I know that Russ is having a great plan to build this team in to a playoff team again and we talked at the end of the season that they’re going to give me the responsibility of leading this defense to where it used to be. That’s a dominant defense and being aggressive and being nasty out there and making plays. I told them I accept the role of leading this defense to where it used to be and just blessed that they gave me that opportunity and they trusted me to be here long-term to get this team back to where it started.”

On returning to college during the offseason:
“I started, and usually I finish what I start. Maybe a meal is the only thing I start and don’t finish. Well, I finish most meals. Really though, I started in school and put a lot of effort into it and worked so hard and for me to not reap the benefit, I couldn’t let that happen. BDC 2/28: Bills-Giants to Meet in HOF Game

Posted by Bills Daily Charge on February 28, 2014 – 11:38 am

billsdailycharge1
DAILY REPORT
– The NFL announced yesterday that Buffalo will square off against the Giants in the annual Hall of Fame game, which kicks off the NFL season. The game will be at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday Aug. 3rd at Canton’s Fawcett Stadium. For the Bills it’s the fourth time they’ll appear in the Hall of Fame game, with their last appearance coming in 2009 when they faced the Titans to help mark the 50th anniversary of the AFL. Buffalo also had a tie-in to the weekend’s enshrinements as founder and owner Ralph Wilson was inducted as well as all-time sack leader Bruce Smith. This summer, the Bills will again have a Hall of Fame inductee in all-time leading receiver Andre Reed. The Giants – who will play in their fifth Hall of Fame game and first since 2002 – will also be represented with DE Michael Strahan a member of this year’s Hall of Fame class.

The Bills and New York Giants will square off in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Sunday, August 3rd at 8 PM. Former Bills WR Andre Reed will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame that same weekend.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Eric Wood, Buffalo Bills Center with BuffaloBills.com
On playing in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game:
“Being in Canton as a rookie while Mr. Wilson was being inducted into the Hall of Fame was an honor. It was awesome for me going back to a stadium to play my first time in a Bills uniform where I played in two high school state championships. This year will be fun to be there in Canton while Andre Reed, a great player for the Bills and a guy I have become friends with, is inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

On incorporating yoga as a part of his offseason training:
“I just started it this offseason. I’m starting to like it. I think it won’t hurt to keep doing it and I think it’s helped me out so far. It’s hard. It’s a workout. It’s harder than lifting weights because football players are so strong and so tight, yoga is real hard. You just feel more loose. It’s hard to explain, but your shoulders and your legs, you just feel like a new person.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Doug Whaley, Buffalo Bills General Manager
Q: How are you approaching this combine and the draft process in your first time as the GM?
A: Pretty much the same that I’ve always approached it because the way I was taught was when you come to this thing, act like you’re the general manager and you’re going to make the decisions. So if you’re ever blessed enough to get that opportunity you’ll be ready for it. The biggest difference is the media obligations.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Doug Whaley, Buffalo Bills General Manager
Q: Do you agree that this is a deep draft class?
A: Well you’re adding 100 extra players, so that’s three rounds of guys that you’re going to have the choice to pick through, so we’re excited about it. There are some positions that notoriously deep, like offensive tackle, corner, and wide receiver. You’ll be able to get some good guys not only in the draft, but as college free agents. So we’re excited about that.

Buffalo Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone addressed the media yesterday at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Doug Marrone, Buffalo Bills Head Coach
Q: In these past couple weeks since the season ended has anything you’ve seen on film surprised you?
A: “Probably not from a standpoint of player evaluation as you look at it, but from a standpoint of, ‘What was productive? Why didn’t we do that more? This wasn’t productive, why do we keep trying to do that?’ Those are the things that come up now more so than ever. Especially after the first year because in the first year you’re going in there and you’re putting those things together and you’re trying to create a consistency about yourselves.  Obviously at the end of the year you look and you’re not what you want your record to be and you go back and you start looking and you say, ‘Alright here’s what we feel these guys have done well.’ Now we’ve done it together, out on the field and out during a game. Not during OTA’s, not practice, not in shorts and now there is something to build on. That’s what you get excited about.” - The John Murphy Show (2/20)

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Rob Moore, Buffalo Bills Wide Receivers Coach
On helping prepare college prospects for the pre-draft process and what it is like to a professional in the NFL:
A: “The number one thing was just the fact that they don’t know what they’re getting themselves into, but after that it’s just the sheer volume of knowledge that you have to have when you come to this level.  There’s a lot of information that you’ve got to know and you’ve got to process it so fast. Then it was the expectations. If you’re a first round draft pick you know the expectations are going to be enormous and how do you manage that?” – via BuffaloBills.com

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Doug Marrone, Buffalo Bills Head Coach
Q: We talk about players and building chemistry amongst players when there is roster changes. What’s it like when you’re bringing in new coaches?
A: Well I think it’s the same thing. You look to build chemistry by bringing in the right guys. You feel they’re going to fit what you’re trying to get out of the players and what you’re trying to get together as a staff. It starts with the staff because if there are any problems on the staff the players see right through that, no different than us seeing problems on the team. It’s been very important and when you look at it there are a lot of connections on it. People who knew people that have known them before or have worked with them. It’s been a very smooth transition and we’ve been able to hit the ground running.

February 13, 1998 — BILLS MAKE A TRADE FOR QB
The Bills traded their first and fourth-round draft positions in the 1998 NFL Draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars for QB Rob Johnson. Head coach Wade Phillips said Johnson would be the No. 1 QB going into training camp.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Pepper Johnson, Buffalo Bills Defensive Line Coach
Q: You’ve gone against this defense before and now you’ll be coaching them. Can you talk about what you see in regards to the players?
A: I see a lot of talent. I see a lot of very good players on the defense and on the team, period. I know it was a team that was hard to game plan against from a defensive standpoint to the offense in our staff meetings. I know it was a very difficult team to game plan against offensively also. Now coming in and spending a little time watching film I know why and I’m looking forward to the opportunity.

BDC 2/12: Bills Introduce New Assistant Coaches

Posted by Bills Daily Charge on February 12, 2014 – 10:02 am

billsdailycharge1
DAILY REPORT
– Bills President/CEO Russ Brandon released the following statement yesterday regarding the New Stadium Working Group announced Monday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo:
“We are very appreciative of the continued support of New York State and Erie County for the Buffalo Bills franchise.

Our primary current operations focus is, as it must be, on the modernization process that is occurring presently here at the Ralph Wilson Stadium campus.   We have to bring it home safely, on time, on budget and with a level of quality we can all be proud of. We are confident our fans will be excited about the numerous changes taking place on our stadium campus and we look forward to being near completion by the start of the 2014 season.

In the 2013 Ralph Wilson Stadium lease the parties collectively saw the wisdom in the establishment of a New Stadium Working Group. This group was designed to include representatives from New York State, Erie County and the Buffalo Bills.  The group’s mandate is to begin to explore ‘(i) the development and construction of a new stadium either on the [Ralph Wilson Stadium site] or on another location in Erie County, or (ii) a substantial renovation of [Ralph Wilson Stadium].’

We look forward to reengaging with Lt. Governor Bob Duffy and Empire State Development President Kenneth Adams as well as County Executive Mark Poloncarz and his staff, all of whom were instrumental in securing the current modernization project. We also welcome Mayors Byron Brown and Paul Dyster as well as Dottie Gallagher-Cohen of Buffalo Niagara Partnership to the effort.”

On the Bills’ wide receivers corps:
“It’s extremely talented. There’s a lot of talent. In the brief clips that I’ve seen, when you watch the tape you see a great potential for growth. These guys are very talented. You can’t teach the speed that you have on this team.”
