QUOTE OF THE DAY
NATHANIEL HACKETT, Bills Offensive Coordinator, on using a unified thought process for the offense:
“We want everybody to be together just like the flow of a basketball game. You want everybody to know where everybody is going to be all the time. It’s a little different in basketball, but we’re trying to bring the same principle to football. Everybody needs to know what their role is on this play and why the play was called. That’s hard sometimes to get that information out because everybody goes their separate ways and works on their individual techniques. So this is something we’ve tried to create that unifies everyone… It’s done some nice things for us and the more you keep everyone on the same page the better your execution.” via BuffaloBills.com (6/18)

QUOTE OF THE DAY
MIKE PETTINE, Bills Defensive Coordinator, on Aaron Williams’ play at safety and learning the position:
“Being a safety is such a different world from being a corner. Now there are a lot of plays where he ends up locked up on a guy and his corner instincts can take over. But it is a lot of learning and a lot of communication and I think he’s ahead of schedule of where we thought he would be. He’s flashed just the things that we saw in him as far as being a safety. Real nice play yesterday undercut a throw, interception and obviously his range his ability to get sideline to sideline is obviously something we’re going to take advantage of.” via BuffaloBills.com (6/12)

QUOTE OF THE DAY
DOUG MARRONE, Bills Head Coach, on the start of the team’s 2013 minicamp:
“Well obviously we’re in mandatory minicamp and I’ll tell you what I’m most excited about was obviously the pace today. It seemed like from what we’ve done in OTAs and the first voluntary minicamp we had and the voluntary OTAs and now coming to this mandatory minicamp the pace has really picked up. One of my messages to the team when I spoke to them was that a lot of time this year we think it’s the end, when really it’s just the beginning. I think that the pace has picked up quite a bit because I think schematically the players are getting more comfortable. I see better communication out there on both sides of the ball. Again, there are mistakes out there, don’t get me wrong, but I’m excited about this type of effort. And if we continue with this type of effort, we’ll have an opportunity to do some good things.” - via BuffaloBills.com (6/11)

KELVIN FISHER, Bills Director of College Scouting on how his background in the social work field has helped in his 14 years as an NFL scout:
“Everybody can measure the talent. What I’ve done helps you read people. It helps you know people, good and bad and I think that’s the key. Sometimes you want to know if a guy has passion for this game, and I think all those characteristics that you learned over the years it helps you define those guys that have the passion. Then you get a feel for it and you know. This is going into my 14th year so I feel have a good grasp of it now.” via BuffaloBills.com (6/10)

BRUCE SMITH, former Buffalo Bills defensive end on the passing of Deacon Jones:
“Deacon and I became very close friends during my days with the Buffalo Bills. I had an opportunity to befriend Deacon and there were some low points or times in my career where I was missing a lot of sacks and I would give Deacon a call and just pick his brain because that’s the type of person Deacon was. He was receptive and always willing to give advice and critique. Those were the things I appreciated about Deacon the most. I’m just in a great deal of shock that we’ve lost not only a legend, but a legendary person.” via NFL AM (6/4)

QUOTE OF THE DAY
JIM KELLY, former Buffalo Bills and Hall of Fame QB on facing cancer head on:
“Oh it has been my whole life. We’re from Buffalo. We’ve been to the top and we’ve had fun, but we’ve been at the bottom and it’s just one of those things that I’ve been through my whole life and just the way it has been. I wish I could say that everything I’ve done in life, everything’s went by piece, but I think for most people that’s the way it is. You have challenges, you have to confront them head on and this is just another one…I’m down at the bottom, but I will rise to the top again.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY
DOUG MARRONE, Bills Head Coach on if he would have any limitations on using C.J. Spiller because of his size and where he sees the backfield with Spiller and Jackson:
“Absolutely not. I think I have really seen him, as well as Fred (Jackson), work on the things that can make them both complete backs. That is our goal. When we put them back there to make sure they are complete backs. I see that we have two backs that can produce results. I think that you will see that C.J has a great ability to get outside and also run inside. I see C.J. Spiller from the time I have been here has worked extremely hard to really step his game up. That is exciting. I have seen Fred (Jackson) as a veteran player, and I like to think that it is not because it is a new staff, really work hard and look good. I think we have an opportunity to have two backs back there that can be productive.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY
MARIO WILLIAMS, Bills defensive end on having former teammate Anthony Weaver as his position coach and his thoughts on entering his second year with the Bills:
“It’s actually motivation. I know when I played with him how he was, we called him the technician, because he was always technically sound. He always relied on his technique when he got tired. He just had that motor and got after it. I know what to expect because that’s how it was when I played with him. I feel like I can’t let him down. Last year, I felt like it was almost like my rookie year all over again–in the sense of new place, big deal, and everything that went on with coming to Buffalo. Now it’s my second year, and I’m really excited about going after it.” via The John Murphy Show (5/29)

Posted by on May 21, 2013 – 9:26 am
DAILY REPORT
–The Buffalo Bills announced yesterday the signing of Robert Woods - the first of the team’s two second-round draft selections (41st overall). Woods started each of his 38 games played at Southern California en route to setting a Trojans record of 252 catches for 2,930 receiving yards – the sixth-most receiving yards in school in school history – and 32 touchdowns. He eclipsed 100 yards receiving in 10 games during his collegiate career. Woods is the seventh of the Bills’ eight draft picks to sign with the team.

ROBERT WOODS, Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver on signing his rookie contract and his style of play:
“First of all I want to say thank you to the organization, but my job is to play football. I hired a good agent. I know he’s going to do his part. My job is to play football, get this behind me and the focus is on the field now. I wouldn’t say I have a distinct style. I can be a possession receiver because I can catch the quick passes and pick up the first down, but I can also make a guy miss and go the distance. So I would say I’m probably more of a complete receiver because I can do it all. I can play inside or outside.” via BuffaloBills.com (5/20)

JERRY HUGHES, Buffalo Bills Linebacker on why he is a good fit for the team’s defense and his transition to Buffalo:
“Just by the way I play football. I’m fast on the field, I’m relentless, I’m always going after the ball-carrier. I’ll do whatever it takes to help the team. Everyone here’s been great, from the fans down to the coaching staff to the guys in the locker room and the front office. Everybody comes in every day with a smile on their face. I’ve been up here sometimes at 7 a.m. and everyone’s treated me well. It’s been nothing but love.” via BuffaloBills.com (5/20)

Buffalo Bills staff and members of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy took part in a full-staff volunteer day at Delaware Park on Friday to help restore a section of the park near the corner of Forest Avenue and Rumsey Road. Bills staff members left their Orchard Park offices to assist in the effort by planting trees, laying gravel, repainting a park shelter, safety surfacing the area and making various other improvements to the setting. The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy continually aims to improve the community’s parks system and relies on the support of events like Friday’s. QUOTES OF THE DAY
Russ Brandon, Bills President and CEO, on what makes Doug Whaley right for the GM role:
“He deserves this opportunity. I have watched him work very closely for the last three and a half years. I have known Doug for pretty much my entire career through the fraternity of the NFL… Doug has every quality you look for in a leader. He has great work ethic, he is tireless at work, he is one of the most humble guys I have ever met and everything is about us. It is about us. He has been in the trenches. He has been scouting his entire career on the pro and the college side. I have never heard an individual in this league say one negative word about Doug Whaley. He is the perfect guy to lead this organization and lead our football operation. I do not know of a guy that is more deserving of this opportunity than Doug Whaley.”
Doug Whaley, Buffalo Bills General Manager, on changing a franchise that has not been to the playoffs in 13 years:
“It’s an organizational focus and our main goal is to give the fans of the Buffalo Bills a team that consistently competes for championships.”
Whaley on if he thought he would ever become an NFL GM and why he’s stayed in Buffalo:
“You always hope. But I knew that if I worked hard and did the best I could eventually you pray that something like this would happen to you. But in this business there’s nothing given to you and there’s no 100-percent guarantee. I stayed here for many reasons, but I committed myself to Russ and Buddy when they hired me. I like to see things through and I’m a competitor.”
Whaley on why he is the right man for the job and what fans can expect from him:
“It is not about me. It is about us and it is about this organization. From Russ instilling in the organization that this is a shared common goal to put this organization back where it is supposed to be, us competing consistently for championships—I buy into it and that is my philosophy. That is why I think we will all work well together.”
