Mario will face former team

Posted by Chris Brown on March 15, 2012 – 4:15 pm

We don’t yet know when this season, but Bills new DE Mario Williams will be facing his former team this fall.

Buffalo is scheduled to face the AFC South this year as part of the league’s rotational schedule. The Bills will face the Texans in Houston, so Williams will be making a homecoming of sorts during the 2012 regular season.

The NFL regular season schedule usually is released in mid-April.

Hall of Fame game set

Posted by Chris Brown on February 29, 2012 – 3:39 pm

The NFL has chosen the two teams to play in this year’s Hall of Fame game in Canton.

The New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals have been chosen as the Hall of Fame game participants, which will be played on Aug. 5th. The primetime preseason kickoff will be aired on the NFL Network. Kickoff is set for 8 pm.

The Saints had reportedly volunteered to participate in the game, which makes sense with their Hall of Fame OT Willie Roaf part of this year’s induction class.

2012 season to open on Wed. night

Posted by Chris Brown on February 29, 2012 – 10:00 am

The 2012 season will reportedly open on a Wednesday night instead of a typical Thursday night as has been the case in recent years.

That according to the National Football Post. The report indicates that the reason the league is moving the season kickoff game to a Wednesday night is because of President Barack Obama’s speech to the Democratic National Convention, which is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 6th. Always protective of their television partners, the league will have the Super Bowl champion New York Giants playing an unannounced opponent at this time the night before.

Speculation is the Giants will face the Packers, pitting the last two Super Bowl winners against one another. That is what the NFL did in last year’s season kickoff game with the Saints and Packers.

Bills to play primetime game in ’12

Posted by Chris Brown on February 3, 2012 – 12:03 pm

The Buffalo Bills will be playing one of their 16 games in 2012 in primetime with the strong likelihood of being on a Thursday night.

That according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who during his annual league address at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis announced an expansion of the league’s Thursday night football schedule.

“We have eight games currently on the NFL Network schedule and we’re going to expand that to 13 games starting in the 2012 season,” said Goodell. “We’re going to be playing Thursday night games from Week 2 through Week 15. This will result in every team appearing on a Thursday football game and every team having a primetime appearance throughout the season. We think it’s great for the fans and great for the teams to have that primetime exposure and great for the Network.”

That means 26 of the 32 NFL clubs will appear on the Thursday night schedule during the 2012 regular season along with the two that appear on Thursday night kickoff weekend in Week 1 on NBC which makes 28. Presumably the four that do not will appear either on Sunday or Monday night during the regular season. The 2012 NFL schedule will be released in mid-April.
