Simpson injury update

Posted by Chris Brown on August 14, 2009 – 1:53 am

Ko Simpson did not participate in practice on Thursday due to an ankle injury.

“His ankle just got sore on him and we thought we’d give him a couple days off and just see where it takes us,” said head coach Dick Jauron.

Jauron did not say whether the ankle would sideline him for Saturday’s preseason game. Taking reps in his place was free safety Antwain Spann.

Bills have open roster spot

Posted by Chris Brown on August 11, 2009 – 4:32 pm

With the Bills’ re-signing of Antwain Spann and two reserve players waived/injured, there is an open roster spot available to the club.

I think the most likely positions where there could be an addition are linebacker and defensive end. Linebacker because Ashlee Palmer was injured during Sunday night’s game. He was not at walk-thru this morning.

Defensive end is another possibility because if Copeland Bryan is still not ready to return from a hamstring injury (though I’ve gotta think he has to be close) they may need another player there.

Right now Kelsay, Denney, Schobel, Ellis are the only healthy ends, though Mace could kick out there for reps if necessary. Of course if Aaron Maybin could be signed this week none of that would be necessary either.

Which position do you think should be addressed?

Be interesting to see where Bills use Spann

Posted by Chris Brown on August 1, 2009 – 1:05 pm

Antwain Spann, who was signed by the Bills late Friday, has been primarily a special teamer in his three years with the Patriots. Also a defensive back he was mainly a safety for New England, but also played cornerback in college. I wondering where they see this guy fitting in.

Safety is a log jammed position right now with Whitner, Scott, Wilson, Simpson, Wendling, Fox and Jairus Byrd already making it three deep at both spots along with a seventh. It’ll just be interesting to see where this guy get reps defensively.

I’m not betting on him lining up at cornerback, but you never know. Of course cornerback is one of the deeper positions on the roster too with McGee, McKelvin, Youboty, Corner, Florence, Lankster, Harris, Sargeant.

Where do you think he lines up?
