C.J. versus C.J.

Posted by Anna Stolzenburg on March 22, 2013 – 9:44 am

The word was Byrd yesterday as he toppled Scott Chandler’s jump ball TD for the win in Bills Bracketology. Byrd came away with a healthy 76% of the vote.

In a battle of literal equals today, C.J. Spiller challenges himself. Though one top play is a catch for a touchdown, and one is a traditional run, sources say this is the first time Spiller has ever competed against himself in a fan vote. Barring a no vote – which at press time is no longer a potential outcome – we’re calling this a win-win situation for Spiller.

Upset about Harvard busting your bracket last night? Head to Bills Bracketology, where you can VOTE to control the outcome. It’s the last day of the 2nd round of action, Bills fans, so vote early and vote often!

After cleaning up in the 1st round last week, Leodis McKelvin’s primetime punt return did it again yesterday against a Donald Jones TD. In what was predicted to be a close game between a No. 4 and No. 5 seed, McKelvin finished with 88% of the vote.

With the hardwood tournament tipping off this afternoon, Bills Bracketology will only pick up steam. Today, it’s Jairus Byrd’s diving interception under the bright Thursday night lights at the Ralph against a tricky Scott Chandler endzone grab against the Patriots.

Who will heat it up today? VOTE NOW!

Bills Bracketology “Marches” into 2nd round

Posted by Anna Stolzenburg on March 19, 2013 – 9:39 am

bracket-matchup-3.18-cp

With yesterday’s win over the 15th seeded Bryan Scott pick-and-roll to the endzone, C.J. Spiller’s dynamic 3rd seeded touchdown run against the New York Jets becomes the last team to move into the 2nd round of Bills Bracketology. Spiller won handily with 86% of the vote.

Today’s first quarterfinal battle between the No. 1 and No. 9 seeds reads like an easy win for Stevie Johnson, but it’s March, and there’s always potential for a sprinkle of madness!

“As the coach of the overall number one seed in the NCAA tournament I understand the pressure Stevie feels to perform, but we’re both ballers, so I’m confident we’ve got this,” Louisville Coach Rick Pitino might have said about this matchup. (Read which current Bills player is supporting Pitino and his Cardinals in their tournament run.)

While you’re filling out your brackets in the next few days, make sure you stay tuned to buffalobills.com for close battles between some of the best plays of the 2012 season. VOTE NOW for your first quarterfinal favorite!

Bills Bracketology weekend recap

Posted by Anna Stolzenburg on March 18, 2013 – 9:49 am

bracket-matchup-3.17-cp

It was all offense all weekend in Bills Bracketology as Scott Chandler’s endzone jump ball and C.J.’s long run for the TD beat out defensive plays by Kyle Williams and Mario Williams.

As expected, the 7 vs. 10 seed game came down to the wire. The 7th seeded Chandler TD eked out the win with 57% of the vote to Mario Williams’ 43%. Chandler will go on to play the perennially tough Jairus Byrd and his primetime pick in the 2nd round of Bills Bracketology, which starts tomorrow.

The C.J. Spiller win was an upset as his 11th seeded 66-yard touchdown run beat Kyle Williams’ 6th seeded sack over Kansas City. C.J. will advance and play the winner of today’s No. 3 vs. No. 14 seed game: a C.J. TD run against the Jets vs. a Bryan Scott interception for a touchdown. Will we see a C.J. vs. C.J. battle in the 2nd round? VOTE NOW!

It’s official. Bills Bracketology had its first real late-night madness. Just like the Syracuse vs. Georgetown game last night, the 2nd seeded Jairus Byrd vs. the 15th seeded C.J. Spiller top plays matchup came down to the wire. The favorite, Byrd’s primetime pick, hung on by a nail winning 51% to 49%.

After the game, commentator Jay Bilas might have said, “Anything can and will happen when the 15 seed comes to play.”

Byrd will advance to next week’s second round to play the winner of today’s potential upset, as the 7th seeded Chandler TD faces a tough No. 10 seed in Mario Williams’ sack, forced fumble, and fumble recovery play. VOTE NOW!

McKelvin with repeat wins in Bills Bracketology

Posted by Anna Stolzenburg on March 15, 2013 – 9:42 am

bracket-matchup-3.14-cp

Yesterday’s 4- vs. 13-seed game was the most exciting first-round game yet. A late push from Leodis McKelvin’s punt return for a touchdown in our Thursday night home game finished off Jairus Byrd’s 2nd interception of the day in Arizona. The final score was 59% for McKelvin’s return to Byrd’s 41%.

It’s safe to say McKelvin came to play in this year’s Bills Bracketology; this marks his second win in just four games played so far.

Byrd is back for revenge today after yesterday’s loss to take on C.J. Spiller’s 49-yard run against the Jets. WATCH the plays and VOTE now in today’s matchup!

Upset City in yesterday’s Bills Bracketology

Posted by Anna Stolzenburg on March 13, 2013 – 10:49 am

bracket-matchup-blog-3.12

Bills Bracketology took a trip to Upset City yesterday when the 9th seeded Leodis McKelvin kick return came away with a clean victory over a highly touted C.J. Spiller 8th seed.

McKelvin surged early, perhaps due to his recent contract extension with the Bills, and finished with 77% of the vote, leaving C.J.’s impressive cross of the Cardinals defense with 23%.

With that win, the coast-to-coast return will move on to next week’s second round and will face the No. 1 overall seed and can’t-miss play of the year, Stevie Johnson’s alley-oop catch vs. Seattle.

Today’s matchup pits the 5th seeded Donald Jones TD catch against  Chris Kelsay’s  12th seeded game-changing safety in Arizona. Will newly-retired Kelsay have the juice to beat Jones? Watch the plays and cast your vote now!

Stevie wins first Bills Bracketology matchup

Posted by Anna Stolzenburg on March 12, 2013 – 10:02 am

day-1-bracketology-blog

Monday’s Bills Bracketology matchup was a battle of David and Goliath, and Goliath won.

In our madness kickoff game, the No. 1 seed, ‘Stevie’s alley-oop catch vs. Seattle,’ bullied the No. 16 seed, ‘Stephon Gilmore’s ‘diaper dandy’ interception,’ to an 83% to 17% landslide victory.

As Dick Vitale might say, “The diaper dandy was no match for that Yeevie, baby!”

With that win, Stevie’s catch will move into next week’s second round of Bills Bracketology madness, and will play the winner of today’s 8-seed vs. 9-seed matchup. Anything could happen in this battle of equals, so vote NOW for your pick between the 8th seeded play, ‘Spiller crosses up the Arizona D for the TD’ and the 9th seeded play, ‘Leodis takes it coast-to-coast vs. Kansas City.’

VOTE NOW: Bills Bracketology
