Hauschka doesn’t practice; Hughes, Matthews limited

Posted by Chris Brown on November 16, 2017 – 3:51 pm

The Bills kicker was a new addition to the injury report Thursday, as Stephen Hauschka did not participate due to a right hip injury. The severity of the injury is not known, but presumably if it was serious the club would make a move to add a kicker to the roster. Also added to the Bills injury report Thursday was G John Miller, who was limited with an ankle injury.

The good news for the Bills is it looks like they’ll have both of their starting cornerbacks in the lineup on Sunday when they face the Chargers. E.J. Gaines was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, but on Thursday he went through his first full practice in almost a month.

Jerry Hughes was also back practicing after missing Wednesday’s session. Head coach Sean McDermott was encouraged by Hughes’ progress.

“He did good. He moved well, better than I originally thought going into practice, so it’s a good sign,” McDermott said.

Jordan Matthews remained a limited participant in practice for a second straight day with a knee injury. Charles Clay returned to practice as a limited participant after sitting out Wednesday.

Here’s the full injury report for Thursday.

Zay Jones practices fully, Gaines limited

Posted by Chris Brown on November 15, 2017 – 3:12 pm

There are a couple of Bills players who missed last week’s game who are close to making a return. WR Zay Jones practiced fully on Wednesday while CB E.J. Gaines was limited. But the hope is both will be back in the lineup this week.

“I’m optimistic,” said Jones. “I’m just going to stay on the program I’m on right now. Practice today was a step in the right direction. I’m very encouraged about that. The training staff is doing a great job of just getting my legs back underneath me. I’m excited to just get back out there.”

Barring a setback, Jones is expected to be back in the lineup on Sunday in Los Angeles, which would be a good thing for QB Nate Peterman. Jones and Peterman established a good rapport during their week together on the same team at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, only to continue it through the offseason and training camp with the Bills.

Gaines meanwhile was limited. The cornerback practiced on a limited basis all of last week, but didn’t make it to the game. The hope this week is he’ll be able to increase his workload each day leading up to Sunday.

Jordan Matthews was also a limited participant with a knee injury.

Clay looking good for Sunday

Posted by Chris Brown on November 9, 2017 – 3:31 pm

The Bills were without Zay Jones and Cordy Glenn at practice again on Thursday putting their status in question for Sunday’s game against the Saints. But it appears that Charles Clay will make his return to the lineup this week after missing the last three games with a knee injury.

“Yeah he practiced (Thursday) and did some good things,” said head coach Sean McDermott of Clay. “The biggest thing is going to be first week back, how he transitions from (Wednesday) to (Thursday), which I thought was good and then into (Friday). Then going into the game.”

McDermott admits that after a layoff as long as Clay’s that they have to be realistic with his workload.

“We have to keep that in perspective for sure,” he said. “So we’ll just see going forward.”

Limited for a second straight day at practice was CB E.J. Gaines, who is trying to return from a hamstring injury.

“E.J. was out there and did some things,” said McDermott. “We’ll see how he looks going into the weekend.”

As for Glenn and Jones, more will be known when Friday status designations are issued.

“Zay is still day to day. He’s made progress,” McDermott said. “Cordy, same thing, still day to day.”

Here’s the full injury report.

Zay Jones injury listed as ankle

Posted by Chris Brown on November 8, 2017 – 3:34 pm

Buffalo’s injury report on Wednesday played out just how head coach Sean McDermott said it would at his morning press conference.

OT Cordy Glenn and WR Zay Jones were the only non-participants. The only surprise was that Jones’ injury, which had initially been described as a knee injury is actually an ankle injury.

TE Charles Clay and CB E.J. Gaines were both limited as they try to return from knee and hamstring injuries respectively.

Clay, Gaines out; Humber, Poyer questionable

Posted by Chris Brown on November 1, 2017 – 11:41 am

The Bills final injury report is out for Thursday night’s game, and there aren’t any surprises.

TE Charles Clay and CB E.J. Gaines were both seen as unlikely to play against the Jets and have been officially declared out for the game.

LB Ramon Humber, now a month removed from thumb surgery is questionable along with S Jordan Poyer, who missed last week’s game due to a knee injury. Poyer told reporters Tuesday that he believes he’ll play Thursday night.

“I was able to finally get on the field and do everything that I wanted myself to be able to do in order to play on Thursday,” Poyer said. “Talking positive and I’m going to continue treatments in order to set myself up to play on Thursday. I’m excited about the opportunity that I’ll have to get out there and play on Thursday night.”

Richie Incognito will start on Thursday night at left guard. After practicing fully on Wednesday he was removed from the team’s injury report altogether.

Here’s the Bills full injury report.

Incognito, Gaines sit out practice again

Posted by Chris Brown on October 31, 2017 – 10:50 pm

On a short week a starter on offense and defense are still trying to heal up. Richie Incognito and E.J. Gaines were both kept off the practice field on Tuesday. Incognito played last Sunday with an ankle sprain and got through the game, but is likely sore. Gaines is trying to recover from a hamstring injury suffered against the Buccaneers in Week 7. Their official status will be known on Wednesday for Thursday night’s game.

The news is much more encouraging for S Jordan Poyer. He said he’s optimistic about returning to the lineup after missing last week’s game with a knee injury.

“I’m encouraged and I feel like I’ll be ready to go on Thursday night,” said Poyer. “Every day has been a lot better. It’s just a matter of when is going to be the day when I’m able to cut and do everything I want to do. I’m able to do that so that’s been a real positive.”

LB Ramon Humber is also closer to returning to the lineup after he participated in practice on Tuesday on a limited basis. Here’s the full injury report.

Humber, Poyer, Incognito, Wood limited

Posted by Chris Brown on October 30, 2017 – 6:31 pm

For a Thursday night game an injury report is required of each team on Monday with an estimation of what the participation level of injured players would be if there was a full scale practice.

Naturally a day after a game that isn’t the case, but there were two players who are making their way back into the practice fold and one new addition.

Jordan Poyer and Ramon Humber were both listed as limited. Humber hasn’t practiced in a month due to a thumb injury that required surgery. So a limited designation today is a sign that he’s getting to a point where he can practice again.

Poyer missed last week’s game, but is trying to return to the lineup Thursday night and made good progress over the weekend according to coach McDermott.

Eric Wood is the new addition with an ankle injury and was designated a limited participant.

Charles Clay and E.J. Gaines did not practice. Here’s a look at the full injury report.

Gaines, Incognito, Poyer still sidelined

Posted by Chris Brown on October 26, 2017 – 3:06 pm

Two starters on defense and one on offense are trying to work their way back from injuries suffered in last week’s game to be ready to play Sunday against Oakland. But right now none of them have been able to get on the practice field.

E.J. Gaines, Richie Incognito and Jordan Poyer all missed a second straight day of practice on Thursday. Head coach Sean McDermott provided updates.

“(Both Gaines and Poyer) are day to day at this point, so we’ll see,” said McDermott.

As for Incognito, there were no plans from the start of the week to practice him Wednesday or Thursday.

“Yeah that was the plan,” McDermott. “We’re sticking with the plan right now. He’s getting better every day.”

Jordan Poyer and Richie Incognito were the new additions to Buffalo’s injury report this week. Both are considered day to day.

Poyer was encouraged that he was able to work on the side on Wednesday as he was held out of practice.

“I feel good especially after the kind of injury it was,” said Poyer. “Right now, it’s just kind of day to day. Every single day it’s gotten a lot better. A lot better than I expected it to heal so far. So day to day. I was able to job around today and it felt really good so we’ll see.”

Gaines, Johnson, Matthews all listed questionable

Posted by Chris Brown on October 20, 2017 – 3:08 pm

The Bills will not have TE Charles Clay or LB Ramon Humber, but they’re expected to have two of their top three cornerbacks back in their defensive lineup. And there appears to be a good chance they’ll have WR Jordan Matthews back as well.

Although cornerbacks E.J. Gaines and Leonard Johnson and WR Jordan Matthews are all listed as questionable all three participated fully in practice on Friday.

For Matthews it was his first day of full participation after he was limited on Wednesday and Thursday in his return from thumb surgery. For Gaines and Johnson it was their second consecutive day practicing fully all but assuring they’ll both assume their normal coverage duties Sunday against Tampa Bay.

OT Cordy Glenn will have the opportunity to start on Sunday after a full week of practice for the first time in a long time. Head coach Sean McDermott said the staff will determine if Glenn starts and whether he rotates in and out with rookie Dion Dawkins on Saturday.

WR Matthews still limited

Posted by Chris Brown on October 19, 2017 – 2:58 pm

Bills WR Jordan Matthews was again at practice catching passes on Thursday, but did not practice on a full-time basis. For the second straight day he was limited.

Not practicing was Richie Incognito as he was on a veteran rest day.

The encouraging news was cornerbacks E.J. Gaines and Leonard Johnson were both full participants in practice after being limited on Wednesday. Cordy Glenn was also a full-time participant for a second consecutive day.

“I’m encouraged with where I’m at,” Glenn told Buffalobills.com. “I was here during the bye week getting extra work in and the strength and conditioning staff has done a good job of having me as close to game shape as possible.”

Here’s Buffalo’s Thursday injury report

CBs Gaines & Johnson limited Wednesday

Posted by Chris Brown on October 18, 2017 – 3:46 pm

Bills CB E.J. Gaines and Leonard Johnson were both back on the practice field Wednesday.

Both players benefited from the bye week. The two cornerbacks were limited in Wednesday’s practice session. But Johnson said he felt good.

“It’s actually scary how fast the body can almost heal itself with the proper diet and our medical team doing a great job with rehabbing me and keeping me uplifted and in tune with everything in regards to my movements on the field and in the pool,” said Johnson after Wednesday’s practice. “So I feel pretty good. I feel really good actually.”

So too was WR Jordan Matthews, who caught passes for the first time since thumb surgery two weeks ago.

OT Cordy Glenn practiced fully. Here’s the full injury report.

Glenn out for Sunday, Lawson questionable

Posted by Chris Brown on September 29, 2017 – 1:32 pm

BBSP_6162_Injury-Report-by-UBMD---Excel-Header

It was widely anticipated that Bills OT Cordy Glenn would not be able to play this Sunday after failing to practice all week. That was confirmed Friday with the release of the team’s injury report.

Tyrod Taylor’s blind side protector was listed as out for Sunday’s game against the Falcons. That means that rookie OT Dion Dawkins will make his second straight start on Sunday in Atlanta.

Meanwhile the situation is more up in the air on DE Shaq Lawson. Lawson, who sustained a groin injury in practice Thursday, did not practice on Friday and head coach Sean McDermott indicated that he’s likely to be a game time decision.

If he can’t go Eddie Yarbrough is expected to start with Ryan Davis rotating in at left defensive end.

Groin injury adds Lawson to injury report

Posted by Chris Brown on September 28, 2017 – 2:53 pm

Shaq Lawson was added to the Bills injury report Thursday with a groin injury. Lawson told Buffalobills.com that it’s been sore more than anything else, but he was pulled from practice early on Thursday to avoid making things worse.

“It’s just been sore,” Lawson said. “I think I’ll be alright.”

Lawson, who has a sack in each of his last two games against NFC opponents, is looking to make it three in a row on Sunday against Atlanta. His likelihood of playing against the Falcons will be listed in the team’s Friday injury report.

In the meantime here is where things stand following Thursday’s practice, with Marcell Dareus a full practice participant.
