Bills unlikely to have Dareus or Woods

Posted by Chris Brown on October 21, 2016 – 2:57 pm

While the chances of Marcell Dareus and Robert Woods are at about 25 percent to play Sunday and LeSean McCoy is a true question mark for the game, there are a couple of questionable players expected to take the field at Miami.

DT Kyle Williams, OT Cordy Glenn and TE Charles Clay are probably the most likely questionable players who will suit up Sunday.

Rex Ryan said he wasn’t ready to completely rule out Dareus or Woods, but they’re seen as long shots at best. Here is Buffalo’s full injury report.

Woods still hoping to play Sunday

Posted by Chris Brown on October 20, 2016 – 2:23 pm

Robert Woods missed a second straight day of practice. He’s dealing with an undisclosed foot injury. Woods said he is still trying to get to a point where he can play Sunday in Miami.

“I’m still day to day and just getting treatment to try to get back as fast as I can,” said Woods. “I don’t want to say too much on it. I just want to get healthy and get back as fast as I can and make it through the rest of the year. It’s a big game for us so I’m doing everything possible to play this week.”

Woods confirmed that he had an X-ray, but there’s no broken bone in his foot. He said it’s an injury that can heal in time. In the throes of an NFL season however, it might prove difficult to get back to 100 percent.

As for Rex Ryan’s assessment of where Woods and the other non participants in practice stand, Buffalo’s head coach is not ready to declare anyone out for Sunday’s game.

“I think the fact that these guys don’t practice I don’t think is a good sign. But that doesn’t mean than any of them are ruled out for Sunday,” said head coach Rex Ryan.

Here’s the Bills injury report following Thursday’s practice.

Rex less optimistic about Dareus Sunday

Posted by Chris Brown on October 13, 2016 – 2:39 pm

He’s not ruling him out, but it’s looking more and more like Marcell Dareus will not make his season debut in Week 6 against the 49ers.

With Dareus missing a second straight day of practice with a hamstring injury, head coach Rex Ryan

“I would say probably (less optimistic) because he hasn’t practiced the last two days,” said Ryan. “We’re still not going to rule him out, but yeah I wish he could’ve practiced.”

Here’s a look at Buffalo’s injury update from Thursday.

CB Corey White has a shoulder injury and hasn’t practiced this week either. Head coach Rex Ryan said he’s concerned about White’s availability for Sunday as well.

Bills short at offensive tackle Wednesday

Posted by Chris Brown on October 5, 2016 – 6:08 pm

The Bills offensive tackle position is still on the mend even though starting LT Cordy Glenn came out of Sunday’s game no worse for the wear. Head coach Rex Ryan however, said Glenn was still sore, so they held him out of practice Wednesday. The expectation is that Glenn will practice Thursday.

With Cyrus Kouandjio still on the shelf with an ankle injury of his own, Michael Ola manned left tackle in practice Wednesday after signing last week.

Charles Clay got his typical one day off from practice. Stephon Gilmore got his ankle re-taped early in practice and was limited.

Salas, Watkins unable to practice

Posted by Chris Brown on September 29, 2016 – 4:01 pm

The Bills knew that Sammy Watkins was going to be a question mark for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. Whether he practiced this week was another up in the air scenario. And at this point it sounds as though he’ll go another week without practicing.

After Watkins missed practice Wednesday and again Thursday, head coach Rex Ryan was asked if Watkins would be held out of practice Friday.

“That’s a real possibility,” said Ryan.

As discouraging as that prospect might be, Ryan, much like last week, is willing to push Watkins availability right up until game time.

“I guess there’s a concern, but we’ll just see how this thing goes,” said Ryan of Watkins. “This is what the plan was, try to get him there on Sunday and see how he feels and if he’s ready to roll then turn him loose.”

Meanwhile Greg Salas sat out practice Thursday after being limited on Wednesday. Ryan did not sound surprised saying Salas didn’t do much on Wednesday. But his availability for Sunday appears to be up in the air too.

Jonathan Meeks was another player who was limited on Wednesday, but was unable to practice Thursday.

On the positive side, Charles Clay returned to practice after missing Wednesday albeit on a limited basis. And Cordy Glenn, though limited, practiced for a second straight day.

“We’re hopeful that he can go,” said Ryan of Glenn. “I’m encouraged that he’s been out there two days in a row.”

Glenn, Darby limited; Watkins, Clay sit

Posted by Chris Brown on September 28, 2016 – 4:40 pm

Charles Clay and Sammy Watkins headlined the list of players who did not practice Wednesday. Cyrus Kouandjio was a new addition with an ankle injury and also sat out practice. But LT Cordy Glenn and CB Ronald Darby were limited as they get closer to returning to full strength from ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.

Head coach Rex Ryan is hopeful that Glenn and Darby’s participation are positive signs for their availability on Sunday. Aaron Williams (ankle) and Jonathan Meeks (foot) were new adds among the limited participants.

Darby another question mark for Sunday

Posted by Chris Brown on September 23, 2016 – 2:18 pm

Sammy Watkins isn’t the only starter who might not be able to go on Sunday against the Cardinals.

CB Ronald Darby, who was nursing a hamstring injury that kept him limited this week in practice is listed as questionable for the game this weekend. If he can’t go Corey White is expected to step in at his left cornerback position.

White, who spent part of the 2015 season in Arizona, has familiarity with the Cardinals receiving corps and has been providing what intel he can to his fellow DBs.

“I’ll help out a little bit, but they run so much stuff on offense and it’s different every week so we can really only go out there and play and do our assignment,” said White.

Here’s a look at the Bills full injury report for Sunday.

Salas the new add to injury report

Posted by Chris Brown on September 23, 2016 – 7:16 am

As much focus as there has been on Sammy Watkins foot injury he wasn’t the only receiver on Buffalo’s injury report Thursday.

Greg Salas was added Thursday with a groin injury.

“Yeah I don’t think it’s a major injury but yeah, it did happen in practice,” said head coach Rex Ryan.

Salas is a receiver that Tyrod Taylor has come to trust. His practice participation on Friday along with that of Sammy Watkins will go a long way in painting the picture as to just how much of Buffalo’s passing attack will be available for Sunday’s game.

Ryan said he’s hopeful that Watkins can play Sunday.

Clay, Glenn, Watkins sit Wednesday

Posted by Chris Brown on September 21, 2016 – 6:17 pm

The Bills were without three offensive starters on the practice field Wednesday. And a key defensive starter was limited with a hamstring injury.

Cordy Glenn, Charles Clay and Sammy Watkins were all sidelined with injuries. Moving forward it appears Watkins will have a reduced practice workload for the rest of the season in an effort to keep his ailing foot as fresh as possible for game days.

“He’s practicing once a week and you can only do so much,” said new offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn of Watkins in an appearance on the John Murphy Show Wednesday.

Head coach Rex Ryan said at the beginning of the week that they were hopeful Cordy Glenn could return from his ankle injury and play Sunday. The chances of that happening will be better determined based on Glenn’s level of practice participation Thursday.

Ronald Darby’s hamstring injury did not surface in the game on Sunday according to head coach Rex Ryan, but it was enough to keep Darby from doing much at all in practice Wednesday.

“He got through the game and finished the game,” said Ryan of Darby. “Hopefully it’s not a serious injury.”

If Darby can’t go on Sunday, veteran Corey White is expected to step in at cornerback.

Glenn out, Watkins questionable for Thursday

Posted by Chris Brown on September 14, 2016 – 12:36 pm

Bills LT Cordy Glenn will not dress for Thursday night’s home opener due to an ankle injury. Cyrus Kouandjio will start in Glenn’s place at left tackle. Special teams ace Colt Anderson is also out with a foot injury. Questionable is Sammy Watkins.

There were only walk through practices during this short week for the Bills, but if there had been a normal practice, Watkins was listed as a limited participant for Wednesday. The receiver said on Monday that he would “definitely be out there,” Thursday night to face the Jets.

Watkins, Glenn, Clay updates

Posted by Chris Brown on September 13, 2016 – 2:32 pm

Both Sammy Watkins and Cordy Glenn were listed as non-participants on the team’s practice report Tuesday. Even though it’s a short week and the team is just performing walk throughs, the team by rule has to list the status of injured players for what would be a normal practice.

Glenn did not attend the walk through practice, but Watkins did, reinforcing his comments Monday that he’ll “definitely be out there playing,” come Thursday night.

Quarterback Tyrod Taylor also spoke with Watkins this week and sounds convinced that his top receiver will be playing against the Jets.

“From my conversation with him it seems like he’s ready to go mentally and physically,” said Taylor of Watkins. “It seems like he wants to go out there and continue to keep showing people what he can do. I’m looking forward to seeing him go out there and have a good game.”

Charles Clay was also on the field for walk throughs and was listed as a limited participant. Blocking TE Jim Dray may have a chance to play this week with him being list as a limited participant too.

Worthy & Clay new adds to injury list

Posted by Chris Brown on September 12, 2016 – 8:29 pm

Bills head coach Rex Ryan talked extensively Monday about Sammy Watkins foot and Cordy Glenn’s ankle, but he only briefly outlined the fact that DT Jerel Worthy and TE Charles Clay both came out of Sunday’s game with knee injuries.

If Monday was a real practice (not a walk through) neither of them would’ve participated. Meanwhile CB Kevon Seymour is expected to be available Thursday night.

Darby probable for Sunday

Posted by Chris Brown on January 1, 2016 – 12:55 pm

Bills CB Ronald Darby has improved as the week has gone on in his return from a groin injury that kept him out of last week’s game.

Darby is listed as probable for Sunday’s game. Head coach Rex Ryan feels a lot better about his options with one of his top corners ready to roll.

“Thank goodness,” said Ryan of Darby’s availability. “That’s one where he’s healthy enough and he wants to compete against some great receivers. That’s what your great competitors do and he’s worked to get to this point and it looks like he’ll be ready to go. Having Darby back is big. It got a lot better for us having him back.”

Darby is expected to start opposite veteran Leodis McKelvin, which leaves Nickell Robey as the nickel and Mario Butler as the fourth corner for Sunday. Bud Noel and Sammy Seamster are in reserve.

The Bills had a new non-participant for Thursday’s practice. OT Cordy Glenn was not in attendance due to illness.

Bills head coach Rex Ryan doesn’t believe the illness will keep Glenn from playing against the Jets on Sunday.

“No,” said Ryan. “It says illness, but I’m hoping he plays. It’s going to be hard for him not to play.”

LeSean McCoy and Nigel Bradham both were not able to practice Thursday, but John Miller and Ronald Darby both practice on a limited basis.
