Colts TE Dwayne Allen, who is expected to play a very large role in Indianapolis’ revamped offense under new offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton, has been declared out for Sunday’s preseason opener against the Bills thanks to a foot injury.
Allen has missed the last two days of practice and according to Colts head coach Chuck Pagano has gone for a second opinion on his injured foot.
“Injury update, Dwayne Allen went for a second opinion,” said Pagano. “Have not gotten the results back yet. He’s due back in town sometime this evening. Just waiting on that. When we have an answer, we’ll give it to you.”
Colts top draft choice Bjoern Werner also missed practice Friday, but Pagano believes he’ll be okay to play on Sunday against the Bills.
“He’s got a sore knee so we just decided to hold him out today and let him rest but we expect him to play,” Pagano said. “The other guys are on the mend and it looks like we’ll get a few guys back hopefully so it’ll help us depth-wise.”
The Bills and Colts kick off at 1:30 pm in Sunday’s preseason opener.
