WRs Jones, Nelson out

Posted by Chris Brown on December 31, 2010 – 2:32 pm

The Bills just released the status of their injury-riddled receiving corps and the news is not good.

Both Donald Jones and David Nelson have been declared out for Sunday’s game with head and rib injuries respectively. Head coach Chan Gailey never confirmed that Jones had a concussion, but he did say he was undergoing tests this week.

Buffalo currently (Friday afternoon) has just three healthy receivers on the roster in Stevie Johnson, Naaman Roosevelt and Paul Hubbard. Gailey already indicated after Friday’s practice that they may need to add another wideout to the active roster.

Bobby Williams and Rod Windsor are receivers on the practice squad, but Williams did not practice Friday and Windsor was just signed on Tuesday.

Bills to add a WR

Posted by Chris Brown on December 27, 2010 – 4:17 pm

Bills head coach Chan Gailey confirmed that the team will add a wide receiver to their 53-man roster this week in the wake of David Nelson’s rib injury.

“We’ll probably get another receiver anticipating that (Nelson) probably won’t play,” said Gailey.

Gailey said Sunday that Nelson would not be ready to play in the season finale against the Jets, despite Nelson’s claims that he’s feeling better today (Monday).

“I’m glad he’s feeling better, but that status I don’t believe is going to change,” Gailey said.

Buffalo makes frequent use of a four wide set on offense, but without Nelson would have only three healthy receivers. So adding a fourth is necessary. The Bills have two receivers on their practice squad in Paul Hubbard and Bobby Williams.

Hubbard was called up from the practice squad earlier this season for a short stint on the active roster.
