Pats activate TE Shiancoe

Posted by Chris Brown on November 10, 2012 – 5:44 pm

The Patriots announced today that TE Visanthe Shiancoe has been activated to the 53-man roster from the injured reserve list. He was placed on the injured reserve with a designation to return on Sept. 5.

Shiancoe, 32, signed with the Patriots as a free agent right before training camp. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound TE is a veteran of nine seasons with the New York Giants (2003-06) and Minnesota Vikings (2007-11).

With TE Aaron Hernandez still questionable as he tries to return from a persistent ankle injury, one wonders if the Shiancoe activation is an indication that Hernandez won’t play Sunday against the Bills. Hernandez missed the Patriots Week 4 meeting with the Bills due to the same ankle injury. Hernandez practiced on a limited basis all week.

Shiancoe is taking the roster spot of RB Brandon Bolden, who was suspended for four games late Friday by the NFL for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. Bolden was already declared out for Sunday’s game due to a knee injury.

Pats RB Bolden out for Sunday

Posted by Chris Brown on November 9, 2012 – 4:26 pm

Patriots RB Brandon Bolden, who was the leading rusher in New England’s first meeting with the Bills is out again this week with a knee injury.

Bolden hasn’t played since the Patriots’ Week 6 game against Seattle when he was injured on a kickoff play. He didn’t practice at all this week. Bolden had 137 yards rushing and a touchdown against the Bills in the Week 4 meeting.

The rushing load Sunday for the Patriots will fall mainly on Stevan Ridley, who also went over the century mark against Buffalo the last time. Danny Woodhead and Shane Vereen will be the complementary backs for New England.

No practice again for Pats RB Bolden

Posted by Chris Brown on November 8, 2012 – 5:01 pm

The severity of Patriots’ RB Brandon Bolden knee injury isn’t exactly known, but he’s missed New England’s last two games and coming off the bye week he has missed two days of practice now after sitting out again Thursday.

Bolden was one of the two 100-yard rushers in New England’s first meeting with the Bills back in Week 4, rolling up 137 yards on just 16 carries including a touchdown. He averaged 8.6 per carry.

It’s looking less and less likely that Bolden will play Sunday, meaning that change of pace backs Danny Woodhead and Shane Vereen will see more time behind starter Stevan Ridley.

Also not practicing again on Thursday for New England were DE and UB alum Trevor Scott (hamstring) and LB Tracy White (foot).

Pats RB doesn’t practice

Posted by Chris Brown on November 7, 2012 – 5:07 pm

One of the two Patriots 100-yard rushers in the first meeting between Buffalo and New England may not be ready to play Sunday.

RB Brandon Bolden has a knee injury that kept him out of New England’s last two games against the Jets and St. Louis in Week 8. It happened on a kickoff play against the Seahawks in Week 6. The Patriots were on the bye last week, but it apparently wasn’t enough time for Bolden’s knee as he missed practice Wednesday.

Bolden rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for the Patriots in the first meeting with the Bills. Shane Vereen would be Bolden’s replacement as Stevan Ridley’s change of pace back if he can’t play Sunday against Buffalo.
