Chris Johnson not shy about success

Posted by Chris Brown on October 21, 2012 – 8:30 pm

Heading into the Bills game last week, Titans RB Chris Johnson said he “sees a lot of opportunities” in his matchup with the Bills. It qualified as bulletin board material. Unfortunately Buffalo’s run defense wasn’t able to shut him up.

Johnson ran for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns. It was the third-highest rushing day of his career.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad game versus them, but it seems like my offensive line they come through when we come down here,” he said after the game. “They did a great job of getting on the linemen and getting to the second level of the linebackers and my fullback did a great job of blocking all game.”

In Johnson’s previous two outings against the Bills he rushed for 122 and 153 yards.

“He challenged us and we did not step up to the plate,” said Chris Kelsay. “We had guys out of gaps. We have to look at the film, but we just did not play accountable to the guy next to us.”

Titans RB Johnson predicting 10-0 finish

Posted by Chris Brown on November 4, 2009 – 11:39 am

The Tennessee Titans might be 1-6, but their RB Chris Johnson is predicting a 10-0 finish.

Prior to Tennessee’s first win of the year in Week 8 over the Jaguars (30-13), Johnson said he believes his team can do it while appearing on Sporting News Radio.

“We really believe like we can … like we started off 10-0 last year … before we played Jacksonville, we sat down and was like we really feel like we can go 10-0 in these last ten games,” Johnson said. “We still want to make the playoffs and we know it’s going to be a very, very tough thing to do, but that’s what records are for — they’re meant to be broken. I don’t think a team that ever started out 0-6 ever went to the playoffs or anything like that. We’re trying to do something nobody has ever done.”

Asked to follow up on that statement after the win over the Jaguars, Johnson didn’t back down even though the Titans still have the Colts to play again this season.

“We look at our last nine games and we don’t think there’s a team on there we can’t beat,” Johnson said.

That would include the Bills who face the Titans in Tennessee in Week 10 (Nov. 15).

Pro Bowl chance for Lynch?

Posted by Chris Brown on January 28, 2009 – 5:55 pm

Tennessee running back Chris Johnson was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster after a breakout campaign as a rookie this season, but he suffered a high ankle sprain in the Divisional playoff game against Pittsburgh on Jan. 12.

A day after the Titans loss to the Steelers, Johnson was wearing a walking boot and head coach Jeff Fisher expressed some uncertainty as to whether Johnson would be able to play in the Pro Bowl.

“He has components of a high ankle sprain,” Fisher said. “He’ll remain in the boot. I can’t say whether or not he’ll be back for the Pro Bowl.”

A league source confirms that Johnson has been rehabbing the injury at the Titans complex with the hope of playing in the game. But a decision will have to be made one way or the other this week.

If Johnson cannot go and has to pull out of the Pro Bowl. There’s a good chance Marshawn Lynch would be the replacement. Lynch was confirmed as a Pro Bowl alternate, but the league doesn’t provide a list of Pro Bowl alternates so it’s hard to say if anyone is ahead of him in line at the running back position.

Lynch finished 5th in the AFC in rushing (1,036). The only possible alternate ahead of Lynch is Houston’s Steve Slaton, who finished 2nd in the AFC in rushing with almost 1,300 yards.
