Colts will be down a starting CB

Posted by Chris Brown on September 11, 2015 – 4:04 pm

UBNS imageThe Bills won’t be the only team in Week 1 without one of their starting cornerbacks. Buffalo will be without the services of Leodis McKelvin for the first six weeks of the season while he recovers from an ankle injury that has landed him on Reserve/PUP. Indianapolis however, will be without starting CB Greg Toler.

Toler is dealing with a neck injury and did not practice all week. He’s listed as out along with RB Vick Ballard.

Toler’s backup D’Joun Smith isn’t healthy either. He’s questionable with a knee injury and has been limited in practice all week. If he can’t go the Colts will be down to just four healthy cornerbacks Sunday.

Greg Toller CB Neck OUT
Robert Mathis LB Achilles QUESTIONABLE

Rookie CB D’Joun Smith has been limited in practice this week with a knee injury. Here’s the full rundown. If both Smith and Toler can’t play Sunday the Colts will be down to four cornerbacks with one coming off a concussion in Sheldon Price.

The Colts picked up Trent Cole this past offseason to bolster their pass rush, and though he’ll be good to go Sunday fellow pass rusher Robert Mathis is a bit more of a question mark.

Mathis is trying to come back from Achilles surgery at age 34 and has been targeting Week 1 for his return. He participated in practice on a limited basis Wednesday. He was activated off the team’s PUP list on Aug. 25th.

Greg Toller CB Neck DNP
Nate Irving LB Knee LP
