PFF suggests Bills free agent targets

Paul Kruger, Andrew Luck

The film reviewers and stat crunchers at ProFootballFocus have put together a list of suggested free agent targets for the Bills this offseason as they try to assess some of the team’s most glaring positional needs.

PFF goes into their assessment under the assumption that Buffalo’s defense will largely be a 3-4 scheme, which if you heard anything from defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, is not a safe assumption. He’s preached being multiple and explained that in this day and age you can’t definitively be a 4-3 or 3-4 front defense.

In any event they list OLB, DE and TE/slot WR as the positional needs that could most effectively be addressed in free agency. Among the players they list are Baltimore’s OLB Paul Kruger, NY Jets DL Mike DeVito and NY Jets TE Dustin Keller as options to fill those roles.

Kruger had a solid season, but benefited from opponents keying on Haloti Ngata and Terrell Suggs after he returned to the lineup in 2012. DeVito is a solid, dependable run defender. Keller is an interesting option knowing it’s very iffy as to whether Scott Chandler would be ready to return by training camp coming off ACL surgery.

Jets WR not expected to play

Posted by Chris Brown on October 16, 2009 – 12:10 pm

The Jets will be without #2 WR Jerricho Cotchery on Sunday.

That according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Cotchery re-aggravated his hamstring injury on Monday night in the loss to the Dolphins and with the short week he has not practiced at all this week.

WR Brad Smith (quad) has also not practiced this week leaving his status for Sunday in doubt as well.

If both cannot go, WR David Clowney would start opposite Braylon Edwards, with TE Dustin Keller expected to line up as the third WR in their 3 wide sets.

Jets injury update

Posted by Chris Brown on October 31, 2008 – 1:41 pm

MLB David Harris is looking less and less likely to play Sunday for New York as he doesn’t appear ready to return from a groin injury. Harris rode the stationary bike for practice again on Thursday.

His backup Cody Spencer has been limited in practice the past two days with a shoulder injury, which would leave David Bowens as the only remaining ILB replacement.

Harris is the Jets’ leading tackler. He’s also the team’s defensive signal caller with the radio helmet. If he can’t play fellow ILB Eric Barton is expected to have the radio communication helmet.

TE Chris Baker (hip) practiced on a limited basis, but fellow TE Bubba Franks (hip) did not practice for a second straight day. If Baker and Franks can’t go it would leave them a bit short on the blocking side of things at TE though Eric Mangini insisted that rookie Dustin Keller, a pass catching TE by trade, could block on the line. I have my doubts.

WRs Laveranues Coles (thigh) and Jerricho Cotchery (shoulder) were both limited for a second straight day on Thursday, but both are expected to play Sunday.

S Eric Smith (head) has not practiced yet this week is not expected to play. Abram Elam is expected to replace him in the starting lineup.

OL Damien Woody (personal) has not practiced this week. The team is giving him the game plan via computer. Woody has also been plagued by a nagging calf injury. Wayne Hunter is the Jets’ swing tackle.
