Jags claim DE Babin

Posted by Chris Brown on November 28, 2012 – 4:32 pm

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a move to bolster their pass rush. The club was awarded DE Jason Babin on a waiver claim Wednesday.

Babin was released by the Eagles in a surprise move on Tuesday. The veteran pass rusher joins a team that is tied for last in the league with 13 sacks on the season.

A former first-round pick by Houston, he has 53.5 sacks in 109 career games. This season he had 5.5 sacks in 11 games for Philadelphia. He’s coming off an 18-sack season in 2011.

Eagles pass rusher fined

Posted by Chris Brown on October 6, 2011 – 12:54 pm

Eagles pass rusher Jason Babin, who leads the league in sacks, was slapped with a fat fine by the league for a hit on 49ers QB Alex Smith last Sunday.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Babin was hit up for $15K by the league for his helmet hit to Smith’s neck on one of his sacks.

“It’s not like it was a late hit, it’s not like it was a malicious hit,” Babin said Thursday.

Babin also tweeted the following after receiving the fine.

“Attn: Guy at the NFL that decides on who and how much players get fined. Stop being a puppet, if you want to protect QBs, get better linemen.”

It will be interesting to see if Babin’s approach to taking down quarterbacks changes this Sunday against the Bills if he has an opportunity to get to Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Eagles defensive front thin

Posted by Chris Brown on October 3, 2011 – 11:33 am

With pass rusher Trent Cole (calf strain) not looking good for this week and rotational DT Antonio Dixon (torn triceps) now likely done for the season, the Eagles are hoping they get a couple of defensive ends back practicing this week.

Head coach Andy Reid said Monday that he’s hopeful DE Darryl Tapp (Cole’s backup) can return to practice this week as well as DE Juqua Parker.

Philadelphia still does have DE Jason Babin healthy. He leads the team with seven sacks after posting a career-high three Sunday in the loss to the 49ers.
