Michigan State will be playing against Butler on Saturday in the NCAA’s Final Four. During the CBS broadcast of the pre-game show, which airs from 4-6 pm, there will be a feature on three former Michigan State alumni including Bills Hall of Famer Joe DeLamielleure between 4:15 and 4:45.

Called ‘Ride of a Lifetime’ the feature will chronicle the bike trek of Joe D., the former head of the secret service Eljay Bowron and John Shinsky from East Lansing, Michigan to Matamoros, Mexico.

For those that don’t remember, last year the three former Spartan teammates went on an 18-day bike ride last spring to raise the final money needed to open an orphanage in Matamoros, Mexico.  Shinsky, who himself was an orphan, always wanted to give back.  With the help of the Michigan State community he finally realized his goal.  The feature is narrated by Dick Enberg.

Here’s our story on their amazing effort from last year.

NFL wants best picks of all time

In celebration of the 75th NFL Draft, which kicks off in primetime for the first time on Thurs. April 22, fans now can help choose the 75 Most Valuable Draft Picks of all time. You can vote for your choices at NFL.com now through April 18.

The 10 Most Valuable Draft Picks will be announced during Round 1, when many of the Top 10 will be in attendance at Radio City Music Hall, the home of the 2010 NFL Draft. The order of the Top 10 will be revealed after the conclusion of the Second Round of the Draft on Friday night.  Many of these players will be on hand for the announcement.

NFL.com editors narrowed down the first 74 Drafts to a list of the top 320 players, consisting of 10 players from each team.  Fans begin the process of determining the Most Valuable Draft Pick by choosing between pairs of players randomly generated from the list of 320 greats.  After selecting winners of 30 random matchups, fans will begin to build their own Top 10 list.  Fans may continue to vote in order to make changes to their personal Top 10 list as well as the All-Time Top 10 announced at the Draft. Users then may share their lists and their head-to-head winners on Facebook.

NFL.com delivers comprehensive information on each of the 320 players, including the player’s draft information and career accomplishments to help the voters make educated selections in determining the Most Valuable Pick.

Joe D. takes on Brees

Joe DeLamielleure is calling out Drew Brees for what the Pro Football Hall of Fame guard believes is a “window dressing” resolution to put two retired player representatives on the NFLPA Player Board of Representatives.

The reason DeLamielleure feels the motion rings hollow is because those two seats do not have votes. They’d literally be figureheads with no voting power. So the Bills Wall of Famer wrote an open letter to Brees on the heels of his resolution at the NFLPA meetings in Hawaii last week where he again champions the cause of increased disability benefits for retired NFL players.

The entire letter can be found here.

Bills Hall of Famer Joe DeLamielleure is holding a charity raffle, which includes tickets to the big game in Miami in February with proceeds going to the City of Children orphanage run by his former Michigan State teammate John Shinsky.

Raffle tickets are just $2 and the list of prizes is extensive for the winners, including spending the weekend of the game in Miami as guests of Joe D.

DeLamielleure and Shinsky were two of the three men that participated in a bike ride for charity last spring from E. Lansing, Michigan to Matamorros, Mexico to raise money for the City of Children orphanage.

HOFers that have RSVP’d for induction day

More than 70 Hall of Famers have RSVP’d and will be attending enshrinement ceremonies on Aug. 8 at the Pro Football HOF in Canton. And there are several former Bills on that list as expected.

Among the Bills HOF’ers who have already RSVP’d are Joe D., Jim Kelly, Marv Levy, James Lofton and Billy Shaw. I think it’s safe to assume that Thurman Thomas will be attending knowing he’s one of Bruce Smith’s closest friends. He just probably hasn’t sent the RSVP back yet.

Here’s the whole list of the HOF’ers that have RSVP’d that you can expect to see if you’re attending HOF weekend.

Well they did it. Joe DeLamielleure and his two college teammates John Shinsky and Eljay Bowron  completed their 2,000-mile bike trek from Michigan State to Matamoros, Mexico to benefit the City of Children Orphanage. A heck of an accomplishment for three 50-somethings.

Joe was keeping a running log of the trip. Here are his accounts of the last day of the journey. They raised $120 thousand for the orphanage, which has been Shinsky’s passion having been adopted as a child himself. If you wish to make a donation you can make a pledge here.

It’s day 12 for Joe DeLamielleure and his two former college teammates on their 2,000-mile charity bike run for the City of the Children Orphanage in Matamorros, Mexico. It looks as though they’re on schedule as they’re working their way west through Louisiana today.

The group is supposed to hit the Texas state line on Thursday finishing up tomorrow at Kountze, Texas. After that it’s just five more days until their ride is complete. Got to give a lot of credit to a trio of 50-somethings.

You can track their progress live online, as well as make a donation to the cause.

Joe D. bike run update

Joe DeLamielleure along with former Michigan St. teammate Eljay Bowron and John Shinsky are six days into their 2,000-mile bike run to Matamoros, Mexico to benefit the City of Children orphanage as they’re trying to raise money for the completion of the orphanage project. Of course an issue that has come up for the riders is the swine flu.

Shinsky, who has spearheaded the charity effort, provided the following update on their course plans in light of the swine flu.

Many people have asked us how we were going to deal with the swine flu issue when we get to Matamoros Mexico.  The answer is a simple one.  As we planned this trip, it has always been our strong belief that the health and safety of the bike riders is of utmost importance.  In the case of the swine flu, we are continuing to obtain accurate and current information about the status of the swine flu by receiving State Department advisories throughout each day.

This information will help us make the final decision as to whether we ride into Mexico or not.  We have 13 more days to see how this unfolds and plan to make our decision at that time.  However, our decision will be made based on the priority of protecting the health and safety of our riders.

If we are not able to ride into Mexico, we will make sure that we complete the remaining miles needed in Brownsville Texas, to ensure that we reach our goal of 2000 miles for the entire trip.

The three riders including Joe D. are currently in southwest Kentucky and are scheduled to reach the Tennessee state line by day’s end. They provide daily written updates on their progress. You can follow their progress and make a donation online.
