Injury update
Posted by Chris Brown on October 26, 2009 – 11:38 amThere are a handful of other players that are getting closer to returning to the lineup as they come off injury. Dick Jauron updated the status of some of those players Monday.
“Jonathan Scott and Bryan Scott both worked out already (Monday) and are looking a little better,” said Jauron. “That’s kind of day-to-day. Donte (Whitner) is in that same group day-to-day.”
TE Shawn Nelson, who was battling flu-like symptoms and missed Sunday’s game is also improving.”
“Coming off the illness we’re a little more optimistic about him having a chance to participating (in practice) this week, so that would be good for us,” said Jauron.
Buffalo played Sunday’s game with just two healthy tight ends in Jonathan Stupar and Derek Fine. So getting Nelson back would be a help obviously.
If Whitner and Bryan Scott are both available Sunday, it will be interesting to see how the defensive staff puts the starting lineup together. With Jairus Byrd unlikely to come out of the lineup, Perry Fewell may consider rotating both Scott and Whitner at the strong safety position based on down and distance and what the opponent can throw at the Bills offensively by way of a pass catching tight end.
Houston has a dynamic pass catching tight end in Owen Daniels, so who Buffalo gets back at the safety position could make for some interesting lineup decisions.
If Jonathan Scott is up this week, it’s expected that he’ll return to the starting right tackle role moving rookie Jamon Meredith back to the bench after two straight starts.

Injury update
Posted by Chris Brown on October 23, 2009 – 1:04 pmFour starters are out for Sunday’s game.
Declared out for Sunday are Trent Edwards, Jonathan Scott, Bryan Scott and Donte Whitner. That means George Wilson and Jairus Byrd will start at the safety positions on Sunday.
Rookie Jamon Meredith will again start at right tackle.
Doubtful for Sunday is Shawn Nelson who failed to practice all week due to illness. If he can’t go that would leave two healthy tight ends on the roster in Derek Fine and Jonathan Stupar.
Questionable for Sunday is DT Kyle Williams, who was able to participate in Friday’s practice on a limited basis. He’ll be a game time decision. If he can’t go Spencer Johnson would start in his place.
Probable for Sunday are DE Chris Kelsay, who practiced on a limited basis all week and CB Terrence McGee, who practiced fully on Friday.
Backup RB Xavier Omon also practice fully on Friday after missing Thursday’s practice due to flu-like symptoms.
WR Terrell Owens did not practice on Friday, but Dick Jauron said it was not injury related. Whether he will be added to the injury report remains to be seen.

Postgame injury update
Posted by Chris Brown on October 11, 2009 – 7:05 pmHead coach Dick Jauron confirmed that two of his linebackers have knee injuries coming out of the Cleveland game.
“Both Kawika (Mitchell) and Marcus (Buggs) are knees and we’ll know more obviously once they get checked either tonight or (Monday),” said Jauron.
As for Jonathan Scott, Jauron said he suffered an ankle injury.
Jauron also added that he was “not optimistic” about Buggs and Mitchell, which means the Bills are likely to be shopping for some reinforcements at the position this week with just four healthy linebackers on the roster in Keith Ellison, Nic Harris, Ashlee Palmer and Jon Corto.

Demetrius Bell not practicing again
Posted by Chris Brown on October 1, 2009 – 4:12 pmLT Demetrius Bell was not practicing again on Thursday due to his groin injury.
Jonathan Scott has been taking reps at left tackle in his absence with Kirk Chambers at right tackle.
Also not practicing were Donte Whitner, Bryan Scott and Leodis McKelvin.

OT Scott is Bell’s likely replacement
Posted by Chris Brown on September 30, 2009 – 9:43 pmEven though veteran Kirk Chambers stepped in for Demetrius Bell when he injured his groin in last week’s game, RT Jonathan Scott is technically the team’s swing tackle. So if Bell, who did not practice Wednesday, cannot go Sunday in Miami, it’s likely that Scott will man the blind side with Chambers at right tackle.
According to Dick Jauron he has no problem starting Scott on the left side if it comes to that.
“Jonathan has played both sides,” said Jauron. ”We’ve flipped him a lot as the swing tackle so he’s gotten work in both areas, as has Kirk. We’ll work our way through the week and then kind of decide what we want to do. But I’m comfortable with Jonathan. Thought he did a nice job for us on Sunday playing on the right side.”
In Chambers time with the Bills he has seen more time at right tackle than left. He last played left tackle in a game back in the season finale in 2007 when he filled in for an injured Jason Peters against Philadelphia, while Langston Walker stayed on the right side.

Nelson limited; other updates
Posted by Chris Brown on September 30, 2009 – 7:10 pmBills TE Shawn Nelson was limited in practice Wednesday. Having him available for Sunday’s game could help the passing game in the middle of the field.
In other injury news Kyle Williams sat out practice with a groin injury as did LT Demetrius Bell. Jonathan Scott, who started at right tackle last week, flipped over to the left side in practice Wednesday and presumably would start there if Bell can’t play, meaning Kirk Chambers would play right tackle.
