OT Tunsil chooses not to run 40

Posted by Chris Brown on February 26, 2016 – 10:22 am

He had told NFL.com’s Gil Brandt that he would run a sub-five second 40 time, an impressive feat for an offensive tackle. But projected top pick Laremy Tunsil has apparently chosen today not to run the 40 at all.

That according to NFL College Football 24/7.

The impact of this decision is expected to be minimal regarding the Ole Miss tackle’s draft stock, especially being an offensive lineman. He will likely be asked about it in team interviews. The Ole Miss pro day is scheduled for March 28th. No word on whether Tunsil will run at that time.

OT Tunsil has different goals

Posted by Chris Brown on February 24, 2016 – 4:53 pm

Since he’s been forecast by a host of draftniks of being the top pick in the 2016 NFL draft, it was only natural for the media to ask him at the NFL Combine on what he thinks about possibly being the top pick in the draft.

“Everybody wants to be the number one pick,” said Tunsil. “It’s been my goal since i was a kid, so it’d be great if it happens.”

Tunsil was also asked what he wants to work on with respect to his game. The Ole Miss offensive tackle gave an unexpected answer. While most would talk about some aspect of their play, Tunsil focused on his leadership.

“I’m working on being more vocal,” he said. “In case you haven’t noticed I’m a shy guy. So being more vocal is something I’m working on.”

OT Tunsil projecting as top pick

Posted by Chris Brown on February 23, 2016 – 6:11 pm

Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil is quickly becoming the consensus top overall pick in mock drafts. It’s due in part to the fact that he’s the best offensive lineman in the 2016 class, but he’s also being listed in the top spot because the Tennessee Titans currently hold the top pick. Knowing they already drafted their franchise quarterback in Marcus Mariota last year no one is projecting the Titans to take a QB with the top pick.

ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper was one of several mock draftniks who projected Tunsil number one overall. He recently explained why in a national conference call.

“He’s certainly viable as the number one player on the board,” said Kiper of Tunsil. “(Florida State CB) Jalen Ramsey and (Oregon DE) DeForest Buckner would be in that mix as well. So he’s in the discussion to be the number one player in this draft, just by rating and need. You have to protect Marcus Mariota. You have (Taylor) Lewan who could move to right tackle and then you’d have tremendous bookends with Tunsil coming in to help your young quarterback emerge and stay healthy and upright. And (Ohio State DE) Joey Bosa doesn’t fit their scheme perfectly.”
