If needed, where Douzable will take up for Kyle

Posted by Chris Brown on December 11, 2016 – 10:33 am

DT Kyle Williams is a question mark for today’s game with a back problem that surfaced Friday morning and kept him from practicing. Williams is the on the field orchestrator of the defensive line’s stunt and end games on the pass rush up front. He studies tape all week and knows the opponent inside and out in terms of formations so he can make split second calls pre-snap to keep the opposing pass protection guessing. If he’s out of the lineup there’s another veteran defensive lineman who will take on those responsibilities.

Leger Douzable will be the one making the calls on the stunt-end games on the pass rush.

“Yeah I sit in there all week with Kyle and we go over all their formations, protections, down and distance, tells. We go through it all,” said Douzable. “Then we come up with the calls we think will work best. So I can handle it.”

It’s uncommon for a defensive staff to give free license to defensive linemen to call their own pass rush games, but Kyle Williams and his understudy Douzable are given that freedom.

Final look: Taylor, Douzable with solid play in Wk 6

Posted by Chris Brown on October 19, 2016 – 9:59 am

In the final review of Sunday’s blowout win over the 49ers, while Tyrod Taylor’s passing numbers didn’t pop off the stat sheet they were very efficient. Proof of that comes in ProFootballFocus’ game review of the win.

They pointed out how effective Taylor was in moving out of the pocket and making plays, by buying time and spotting targets downfield.

When blitzed he completed 83 percent of his throws for 133 yards and two touchdowns, which goes to show that Tyrod is comfortable when he’s moving the pocket. Going into today Taylor had the highest time to throw in the league at 3.22 seconds, most of that being contributed to him moving around giving his receivers time to separate. When he attempted passes 10 yards or farther down the field, there was success to be had as he completed five of seven for 103 yards and a TD.

On defense it was Leger Douzable who was an under the radar performer in the win.

Douzable was especially effective against the run, earning an 83.9 run defense grade to lead the Bills defensive line. Douzable only had two tackles (both of which went for stops) but he dominated the interior of the 49ers offensive line all game long, squeezing gaps shut and clogging up the point of attack.

Report: DL Douzable to visit Bills

Posted by Chris Brown on June 13, 2016 – 9:20 am

Free agent visits aren’t common in the middle of June, but the Bills are reportedly kicking the tires on a veteran DL.

Free agent DL Leger Douzable is paying a visit to One Bills Drive a day before the team’s mandatory minicamp. That according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan.

Douzable, 30, has spent the last three seasons with the New York Jets so he’s played two seasons under Rex Ryan and members of the Bills defensive staff including defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman. At 6-4 and 284 pounds Douzable would be a fit as a 3-4 defensive end.
