The Bills have three defensive linemen not practicing here on Wednesday.

Kyle Williams is getting his typical Wednesday off to give his persistent ankle problem an extra day of rest.

And Chris Kelsay is not in attendance after re-aggravating the torn ligament in his neck.

Aaron, Anderson not looking good for Sunday

Posted by Chris Brown on November 27, 2012 – 8:19 am

Bills CB Aaron Williams and DE Mark Anderson are laboring to return from knee injuries. It was thought that both had a good chance to be back by this point in the season, but it just hasn’t happened.

“It’ll be touch and go,” said head coach Chan Gailey of the chances of Anderson and Williams returning to the lineup this Sunday. “They’re going to do a little bit of work during the week. But I’d say it’s less of a chance than more of a chance right now for those two.”

Anderson already had one setback, which prompted a second surgical procedure on his knee. He’s been out since Week 5. Williams meanwhile has been out since the Week 9 game at Houston. Gailey said neither has suffered a setback of late.

“It hasn’t been a setback, but it just hasn’t moved forward as fast as we had hoped it would,” he said.

A. Williams, Anderson sounding like long shots

Posted by Chris Brown on November 19, 2012 – 4:26 pm

Aaron Williams and Mark Anderson are both working to get back from knee injuries, but head coach Chan Gailey didn’t sound too optimistic that either would be ready for Sunday’s game.

“He’s still working,” said Gailey of Williams. “I doubt he makes it this week, but he’s still working. We haven’t ruled he or Mark (Anderson) out this week, but they’ll have a hard time.”

Anderson has been out since Week 5. Williams has been out since Week 9.

Gailey encouraged about Kelsay

Posted by Chris Brown on November 19, 2012 – 4:21 pm

Bills DE Chris Kelsay returned to practice on Monday after being almost two weeks with a neck injury, and though he only participated in individual drills, head coach Chan Gailey believes the veteran defensive end has a good shot to play Sunday in Indianapolis.

“Kelsay went through individual but didn’t do any team,” said Gailey after Monday’s practice. “It looked like it went well and we’ll find out what he can do Wednesday, but it looked promising.”

Gailey said if Kelsay comes through the week well and does dress to play Sunday that he’ll likely be eased back in and not given his typical snap count.

“We’ll have to wait and see how that works,” Gailey said. “Kelsay has been out a couple or three weeks now. I don’t know that we’ll throw him back in there full boat. We’ll have to talk about what the best way to handle all that will be.”

Kyle Moore and Shawne Merriman have seen the most work at right defensive end in Kelsay and Mark Anderson’s absence.

Anderson, A. Williams 50-50 for Indy

Posted by Chris Brown on November 16, 2012 – 5:31 pm

Bills DE Mark Anderson and CB Aaron Williams, who are both out with knee injuries, have a chance to be back for the Week 12 game at Indianapolis.

That according to head coach Chan Gailey.

“They said they have not ruled them out for this week. I think we are more on the 50 percent than we are the 70 percent probably play,” said Gailey. “I think we are still at the 50 percent mark that they might play this week.”

DE Anderson suffers setback

Posted by Chris Brown on November 5, 2012 – 5:30 pm

There was the hope that DE Mark Anderson would be able to return this Sunday from a knee injury suffered in Week 5 at San Francisco that required surgery, but that’s not the case.

“He’s had a pretty good setback,” said head coach Chan Gailey. “He may need another procedure before it’s over with. I’m not sure we’ll have him this week.”

Gailey said if Anderson’s knee requires another procedure it would only sideline him another two or three weeks.

Not looking good for Anderson

Posted by Chris Brown on October 31, 2012 – 1:34 pm

There was an outside chance that DE Mark Anderson might be ready to return for this week’s game against Houston, but at this point it does not look promising.

Head coach Chan Gailey said earlier in the week that if Anderson could get out on the practice field Thursday he’d have a legitimate chance to play Sunday in Houston. However, Gailey did not sound optimistic that Anderson would make it out for Thursday’s practice.

“Tomorrow will be the day and it’s looking less and less likely,” Gailey said.

Chris Kelsay and Kyle Moore have seen most of the reps that would normally go to Anderson during the past two games that Anderson has missed.

Mark Anderson update

Posted by Chris Brown on October 29, 2012 – 4:20 pm

Bills DE Mark Anderson has an outside chance to return to the lineup on Sunday in Houston, but he’s got a firm deadline this week.

Head coach Chan Gailey said Anderson has to be practicing by Thursday to even be a consideration for Sunday’s game.

“It’s going to be close,” Gailey said. “We’ll see if we can get him back on the field Thursday. If he can’t make it Thursday, then no, but if we can get him on the field Thursday, then maybe.”

Anderson has missed the last two games with a knee injury that required surgery.

DE Anderson improving

Posted by Chris Brown on October 24, 2012 – 3:05 pm

Last week he said he was making progress. Injured DE Mark Anderson sounds even closer to returning to the Bills lineup.

Anderson has missed the last two games with a knee injury, but is likely to return sometime in the next two weeks.

“I think he’s on track they tell me that they haven’t ruled out Houston, but they think the next one he’s got a real good chance,” said Gailey.

The next game after Houston is Buffalo’s Week 10 divisional matchup at New England, a game in which Anderson would face the team he played for last year for the second time.

Loose timetable on Anderson return

Posted by Chris Brown on October 12, 2012 – 5:48 pm

Even though Bills DE Mark Anderson has already had his knee surgery this week, head coach Chan Gailey said the picture is still a bit unclear on how long Anderson might be out, but they do have a loose time frame at this point.

“I could say a general term of three to nine weeks and I’m probably wrong two or three weeks either way,” said Gailey in his weekly conversation with Buffalobills.com. “I don’t know where yet. I think once we get a week of rehab in we’ll have a much better idea.”

Earlier this season Gailey gave a three to eight week timetable for Fred Jackson, and thought it would closer to long end of that timetable and Jackson came back in three weeks. So you understand why Gailey is hesitant to provide a definitive timetable for Anderson.

Anderson has MRI

Posted by Chris Brown on October 8, 2012 – 7:38 pm

Bills DE Mark Anderson left Sunday’s game in the second half and didn’t return. He went for tests out here in Phoenix today.

“He went for tests today here,” said Chan Gailey. “He went for an MRI here, but I have not heard back on the results of that MRI. It was a knee injury.”

Not knowing what the diagnosis was Gailey couldn’t ascertain what level of participation Anderson would have in practice this coming Wednesday.

A. Williams, Anderson also nicked

Posted by Chris Brown on October 7, 2012 – 11:31 pm

Both Aaron Williams and Mark Anderson were nicked up in Sunday’s loss to San Francisco.

Williams is dealing with a hand injury. He exited the game late in the second half. Anderson was tended to by athletic trainers on the field late in the game as well, but his injury was undisclosed. Both players will be re-evaluated on Monday.
