We start at 7pm with the news of the day, with updated injury reports from both the Bills and the Jags.

At 7:20pm, former Bills Safety Mark Kelso joins us in studio to break down the matchup. Mark is the color analyst on the Bills Radio Network, and he’s spent the last week watching Bills and Jaguars video. He’s always got keen insight into the strength and weaknesses of each team.

He’s had a long look at the Houston Texans video. And former Bills safety Mark Kelso knows what the Bills are up against, when they go up against Houston’s top flight running attack Sunday.

Kelso is the color analyst on the Bills radio network. And during his regular Friday night appearance on The John Murphy Show, he was effusive in his praise of the simplicity and effectiveness of the Texans running game, featuring Arian Foster.

“Brutal efficiency personified—running the ball down people’s throats over and over again, without any answer,” Kelso said to describe Houston’s run game. He says he came across that description when someone was linking the Texans running attack to the one run by the old Denver Broncos, when Houston’s Head Coach Gary Kubiak played and coached in the Mile High City.

“That’s what they do offensively. It’s efficient,” Kelso told John Murphy. “Their offensive line is big, even in today’s NFL. All their offensive linemen are big, with the exception of the center Myers.”

“What they do, is they run a stretch play or a slash play, and the running back Arian Foster is going to take the ball and run wide until he sees an opening, and then he’s going to plant his foot and accelerate.”

The Texans have the sixth ranked rushing attack in the NFL going into this week. And Foster’s 659 yards on the ground puts him fifth in the league in rushing, with nine touchdowns on the ground.

Just when you think you know the whole story of Bills running back Fred Jackson, along comes a couple of interesting notes on his background.

Jackson appeared on The John Murphy Show Tuesday night, and he shed some light on his ability to spot holes quickly with the ball in his hands, and his ability to stay on his feet after being hit.

On his vision, Jackson says his two seasons in the United Indoor Football League helped him develop the vision a top running back needs.

“Vision has something to do with playing in the indoor league,” he said on the radio show. “You had to find small creases in that game as a running back. Everybody’s right there on a fifty yard field, it’s so small. I think that helped fine tune my vision.”

The color man on the Bills Radio Network, Mark Kelso, constantly praises Fred Jackson for his ability to get yards after the initial hit, citing his “contact balance.” And Jackson says that balance is the result of childhood horseplay with his identical twin brother, Patrick.

“That just comes from me and my brother picking on each other growing up,” he said. “We were able to fine tune that. Every now and then, we would try to sneak up on each other and knock each other down. I would be walking through the kitchen, and he would jump off a couch and try and tackle me. I think that has something to do with it.”

The John Murphy Show airs weeknights from 7-9pm on the flagship station of the Buffalo Bills, WGR Sports Radio 550.

At 7:20pm, our color analyst on the Bills Radio Network, Mark Kelso, joins us in studio to preview the matchup. Mark spends much of the week looking at game tape of both teams, and he’s ready to start spilling out his brilliance on our airwaves.

We’ll try to hook up again with former Bills special teamer Steve Tasker tonight at 8pm. He broadcast the Browns-Bengals game last Sunday and he’s got some thoughts on Cleveland’s strengths and weaknesses.

We get our weekly fantasy football fix with Sal Capaccio at 815pm.

The four straight AFC titles by the Buffalo Bills in the early 90′s will probably never be repeated again. Former Bills safety Mark Kelso, who was on those teams, said he would not trade those four consecutive AFC titles for a single Super Bowl win. He would swap them for a bit more than that however.

Appearing on the Schopp and the Bulldog show on WGR Sportsradio 550 late Friday afternoon, Kelso was asked for his thoughts and memories on that unprecendented run to four straight Super Bowls. He was also asked if he would trade that four-year ride for a single Super Bowl win.

“Certainly you want ot think about all those good times,” said Kelso. “The fact that you went there four times in row doesn’t diminish the success that you had, but I would’ve traded all four of those for a couple of Super Bowl victories I’ll tell you that. I wouldn’t trade them for one victory and ride off into the sunset and not be a very good team, but if you said we could trade four for two victories I would have to consider that.”

Kelso also stated that had Scott Norwood’s kick been good to win Super Bowl XXV he doubts the team would’ve won four straight AFC titles. He believes not finishing it off was what kept the hunger alive in those teams year after year. To hear the whole segment you can go to the station’s audio vault.

The NFL Community Huddle is holding a Mind and Body health forum here in Buffalo on Oct. 4th.

The National Football League has teamed up with the Satcher Health Leadership Institute of Medicine to provide a series of town hall style forums to educate, motivate and mobilize communities to address issues such as dementia, depression, financial and relationship stress, drug and alcohol abuse, among others.

The, NFL Community Huddle “Taking a Goal Line Stand for Your Mind & Body” will take place Monday Oct. 4th from 7-9 pm at UB’s north campus at the Center for Tomorrow. It’s at the corner of Maple and Flint Roads in Amherst and is free and open to the public.

Speakers will include: Former U.S. Surgeon General and current Director of the Satcher Health Leadership Institute, David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D.; medical journalist and author, Jeanne Blake; former Buffalo Bills linebacker Harry Jacobs; former Buffalo Bills safety, Mark Kelso; wife of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Baltimore Colts tight end, John Mackey, Sylvia Mackey and former NFL quarterback with the Detroit Lions, Eric Hipple.

These NFL Community Huddles are scheduled to be held in every NFL city. Buffalo is the fourth NFL city to host the event.

The goal of the forums is to develop strategies for preventing and reducing the risk of dementia and stigma related to mental disorders. It is also advocating for communities to create a “game plan” for reducing stigma while influencing supportive measures for addressing mental disorders.

All local Buffalo Bills Alumni have been invited to attend and participate in the NFL Community Huddle.
