Hull, Reed, Tasker on HOF nominee list

Posted by Chris Brown on September 27, 2012 – 3:27 pm

Five Bills from the AFC title teams in the early 90′s are on the 2013 Pro Football HOF nominee list.

Cornelius Bennett, the late Kent Hull, Andre Reed, Steve Tasker and Darryl Talley are among the 127 nominees for the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Former GM Bill Polian is also on the list.

A group of 25 semifinalists will be chosen from the nominee list in late November by the HOF Selection Committee. That semifinalist list will be further reduced by a mail ballot to 15 modern-era finalists and announced in early January.

Tasker has been a semifinalist before. Reed meanwhile has been a finalist six times, but has not gained induction.

Other former Bills that are nominees include Sam Adams, Drew Bledsoe and Ted Washington.

Andre focused on Bills not HOF

Posted by Chris Brown on August 6, 2012 – 8:00 pm

Bills Wall of Famer Andre Reed was on hand at Bills training camp Monday taking in the afternoon practice. When asked if he thinks very much about still being in contention for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame he offered the following response.

“No, I do not even think about it anymore,” said Reed initially before correcting himself. “It is not that I do not think about it. My Twitter was going crazy yesterday and the day before. There were a lot of Bills fans there in Canton even though nobody got inducted from the Bills. Just getting a lot of love from Bills fans and people all over the country that say, ‘Next year we want to be here when you are here.’”

“When it happens, it happens. This is eight years now. So it is no different than any other year. I did a lot of media last year and I think this year I am probably not going to do as much of the media thing. I will talk about it a lot once it comes up a little bit more. I’ll be more interested in watching this (Bills) team this year. Getting out of this 12-year funk of not being in the playoffs. That is just not acceptable around here, definitely.”

King: HOF WR issue not changing

Posted by Chris Brown on February 6, 2012 – 11:22 am

SI.com NFL writer Peter King, who is one of 44 members on the Hall of Fame Selectors Committee, and voted for the 2012 Hall of Fame class, which excluded Bills Wall of Famer Andre Reed, has an interesting perspective on the logjam at wide receiver with Reed, Cris Carter and Tim Brown.

In his Monday Morning QB column, King offers the following on the state of the wide receiver debate with respect to Carter, Brown and Reed.

Re the wideouts: It’s become obvious there’s a logjam between the three eligible receivers — Andre Reed, Cris Carter and Tim Brown. I have supported Carter consistently; I believe he’s the best boundary receiver of all time. (That was a phrase coined by former Niner Randy Cross that I stole because it’s so appropriate. Carter was superb at catching the ball at the very edge of the sideline before his feet hit the white of the sideline.) Reed has some staunch supporters. Carter has his. Brown too. But I think it’s coming down to Carter and Reed.

In the same number of games with mostly lesser quarterbacks than Reed had, Carter caught 150 more passes for 43 more touchdowns. That carries a lot of weight with me. But I understand the conflict here. Reed was a very good receiver in his own right. I just feel Carter’s better from a historical perspective. Obviously, if 80 percent of voters felt the way I feel, Carter would be in. I was asked in the last 36 hours what’s going to change at receiver. I don’t know. I’m not sure anything will change.
