Bengals Eifert a headache in the red zone

Posted by Chris Brown on October 18, 2015 – 10:15 am

The Cincinnati Bengals offense has taken off this season and many credit TE Tyler Eifert for being the piece that has put the unit over the top. Opposing defenses can no longer focus their attention on WR A.J. Green and just roll a safety over the top. They now need to account for Eifert, who has been carving up defenses in the middle of the field and the red zone.

Eifert has five touchdowns in five games, including two last week as Cincinnati overcame a 17-point fourth quarter deficit on the road at Seattle to win in overtime. The tight end makes catches in traffic and fights for the ball. He’s also someone Andy Dalton looks for in the red zone.

“He’s doing well. I saw the game from last week,” said Corey Graham. “He did really well last week. He’s running a lot of seam routes. He’s catching the ball well. He’s catching tough balls. He had some times where they were contested and he found a way to bring it down. Obviously as a quarterback when you’ve got more than one threat it helps you and Andy is getting the ball around to all his guys and they’re making plays for him.”

Eifert is a big reason why the Bengals are second in total red zone conversions with 16 touchdowns in five games.

TEs Eifert & Ertz posting numbers

Posted by Chris Brown on February 23, 2013 – 1:15 pm

Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert and Stanford TE Zach Ertz are widely considered the top two tight end prospects in the draft class. They’re living up to their billing in the workout drills thus far here at the NFL Combine.

Eifert had an eye-popping 35.5 inch vertical and a 9’11” broad jump. He also pumped out 22 reps on the bench.

Ertz had Eifert beat on the bench with 24 reps, but was a bit behind in the vertical (30.5″) and broad jump (9’3″).

Another TE putting in a solid workout is Rice’s Vance McDonald. He’s got the high in his position group for bench press with 31 reps and matched Eifert in the broad jump (9’11”). He has not yet attempted the vertical leap.

Buffalo GM Buddy Nix said tight end is a need position for the Bills due to the uncertainty of Scott Chandler coming off ACL surgery at the end of the regular season.

ND RB Wood declares for draft

Posted by Chris Brown on January 15, 2013 – 12:46 pm

Citing his family as the main reason behind his decision, Notre Dame RB Cierre Wood has declared himself eligible for the 2013 NFL draft.

Wood (6’0″ 215) rushed for 742 yards and 4 TDs this past season, but had over 1,700 rushing yards and 12 TDs the two seasons prior. The NFL Advisory Council has reportedly told Wood he’s projected to be a third-round draft choice.

The Fighting Irish back joins fellow teammate TE Tyler Eifert as underclassmen entering the 2013 draft pool. Eifert is widely considered the draft class’ top tight end prospect.

Today (Tues. Jan. 15th) is the deadline for underclassmen to declare themselves eligible for the draft.
