Former Bills QB and former WNY Congressman Jack Kemp was recently interviewed by NFLPlayers.com. He covers a lot of bases both politically and in football.
He also commented on Brad Butler, who worked in the office of his Washington D.C. political consulting firm this past winter when asked about football players transitioning to politics.
Q: Several former NFL players have successfully made the transition to politics. Is that a natural shift for an athlete?
A: Well, I think sports and professional sports in particular are so competitive that once you get out of your competitive sports life, you think about competitive politics.
There’s Heath Shuler, who is a very strong Democratic congressman from North Carolina and a good friend of mine. There’s Steve Largent, J.C. Watts and lots of guys thinking about it.
Brad Butler with the Bills spent a half of a year in my office at Kemp Partners. He’s just a tremendous young role model, an intelligent guard for the Bills and my hope is that some day he takes a look at competitive politics.
Here’s the entire Q&A.
