Kawika Mitchell’s tweaked ankle was all you needed to see to know that the Bills had to do something in terms of the depth at the linebacker position. Signing Teddy Lehman is a good pickup. He was released by the Lions in an injury settlement back in August and has been a free agent.
He’s had some injuries in his history, but in midseason he’s a pretty good signing. He’ll wear jersey #58 by the way on Sunday.
Behind Mitchell, Ellison and Poz was Jon Corto, Blake Costanzo and Marcus Buggs. And while I like what all those guys offer on special teams the combined amount of experience with those three guys on defense was zero games.
Lehman has appeared in 41 games including 16 starts on defense his rookie year under Dick Jauron in Detroit (2004). He’s a smart player as evidenced by his being assigned with knowing both strong side and middle linebacker in his time with the Lions. Lehman can also help on special teams.
I feel a bit better about the depth at LB now.
