The Bills were facing a shorthanded situation on the D-line Sunday with Chris Ellis (now on I-R) and Copeland Bryan both listed as questionable for the game.
With Ellis now out Spencer Johnson will get snaps at both end and D-tackle. But that would have left Kyle Williams and Marcus Stroud as the only other D-tackles and with Buffalo’s linemen used to a heavy rotation they’d likely be gassed by the 4th quarter if they didn’t have another guy.
Mace can play at end and tackle much like Johnson so the Bills should be ok at both spots now even if Bryan can’t play the whole game with his foot injury.
