Even though the Miami Dolphins have reportedly told the Laveranues Coles’ camp they are not interested at all in his services, the reason Coles has not agreed to sign with Buffalo, the only team that publicly has expressed interest, is probably because T.J. Houshmanzadeh hasn’t made his decision on where he’ll be playing.
If Housh signs with Minnesota or anybody else or re-signs with Cincinnati, then the Coles camp might believe they could suddenly have other potential suitors that lost out on Houshmanzadeh’s services, thereby driving up the price on what it would cost to land him.
It’s not a bad play. Coles’ knows Houshmanzadeh is the hottest commodity on the receiver market. Once he’s off the market, he knows he becomes a more attractive free agent option. Houshmanzadeh is supposed to make a decision today on where he’ll be playing, at which points we’ll see if other teams that miss out on him start calling Coles’ agent.
If they do he’ll have played his cards right. If they don’t he might not have a chair to sit on when the music stops.
