It’s been more than a month that the Rams have been trying to move WR Torry Holt off of their books as they search for more cap room. Holt is only under contract through the 2009 season at a base salary of $6.65M.
Presumably you’d have to sign him to a new deal, but a team could likely negotiate a deal that averages appreciably less than that per season after his down year last year and age (he turns 33 in June). The longer the Rams’ efforts to move him drags on the more willing they’d likely be to accept less.
It wouldn’t shock me if a 5th round pick could get the deal done at this point and in a month maybe less than that. If things don’t work out with Laveranues Coles, Holt is an option that should be able to help Buffalo’s offense at least for another year or two.
