Despite his visit to Buffalo, CB Drayton Florence has reportedly made it clear to his agent he’d prefer to sign with San Diego, the team that originally drafted him in 2003. That’s according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
What’s interesting is if Florence signs with the Chargers for a second stint, there’s speculation that Antonio Cromartie could be moved in a trade. Still it’s believed that 2008 draft pick Antoine Cason would take over Cromartie’s starting role in that scenario rather than Florence.
So in all likelihood the Chargers are offering Florence subpackage corner money. It’s believed the Bills took a similar approach with Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin the likely starters in 2009 provided Jabari Greer does not re-sign.
As for Cromartie after one season of underachieving due in large part to a broken hip, he might be on the trade block if the Chargers can get Florence back in the fold.
