Here’s the latest rundown from the National Football Post, which wisely takes into account the free agent acquisitions by some teams. Unfortunately as the NFP sees it, with the Chiefs no longer needing a QB, they’re scooping up Aaron Curry and they’ve got Everette Brown going as high as #5 to Cleveland. But I like who they have going to Buffalo in both round one and two.
Maybin is admittedly a risk with a short college resume, but if they believe he’s just scratching the surface he’s worth the pick. And Shawn Nelson is an intriguing pick for the tight end position, which can’t be helped by what’s in free agency.
Nelson is a guy that NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock believes can develop as a blocker despite his pass catching strengths.
“I watched some tape of him, I knew he could get vertical and catch the football, but at the Senior Bowl I thought he had as good a week as maybe anybody,” said Mayock of Nelson. “He knocked Rey Maualuga on his butt a couple of times in one-on-one drills. He’s what I would call a willing blocker. He’s not a great blocker, he’s not even a good blocker, but he’s willing. He’s 6’5” and 238 and he’s got a body type to get bigger and because I think he’s got some innate toughness I think he will become a blocker and I really like him a lot.”
