While some in the media believe Trent Edwards will have an interesting first year with Terrell Owens on the roster, Edwards doesn’t appear all that concerned. He stated that he has no intentions to speak to any NFL quarterbacks that played with Terrell Owens in the past to see what he should expect from the playmaker.
“I have not spoken to anyone that have played with him,” said Edwards. “I don’t think I plan to do that. I don’t really know him all that well and what type of person he is. But that’s what this offseason is going to entail is getting to know him and all the other receivers as well. We need to focus on the other receivers as well.”
But when pressed on it, Edwards maintained that he’s never done that before and won’t do that in the case of Owens either.
“I’ve never had to do that with any other players that I’ve played with,” said Edwards. “I’m going to call Geoff Hangartner to talk to him and I’m going to talk to Ryan Fitzpatrick on the phone. But I’m not going to call Marc Bulger or Carson Palmer to see what they think of Ryan. I’m just going to take it at face value and go from there.”
Personally I think Edwards’ approach is the way to go. Start with a clean slate and build the relationship between the two players, not with outside influences or preconceived notions.
