Florida, Penn St. headline Wed. pro day schedule

NFL draft prospects at Florida and Penn St. will headline the day which also includes some other top programs around the country.

Cal, Illinois, Michigan St. and N.C. State will all be holding their pro days Wednesday, forcing NFL teams to divvy up their scouting staffs sending them to different parts of the country.

While most eyes will be fixed on Percy Harvin at Florida, I’m interested in seeing what TE Cornelius Ingram (6’4″ 245) can do. A very athletic TE, Ingram missed all of 2008 with a torn ACL, but performed well at the combine considering he was just six months removed from surgery.

In Indy he ran a 4.68, had a 33-inch vertical, a respectable 21 reps on the bench and a good 7.12 second time in the three cone drill. He’ll no doubt be looking to improve on his 40 time another month removed from surgery today, and he’ll need it to move up some boards.

He’s currently viewed as a late third round prospect. A good 40 time could get him to the top half of that round. A former high school QB, he has a good head for the game and is a pass catcher by trade. He’s a potential sleeper coming off that injury knowing he may not be all the way back until NFL training camps start.

At Penn State, you have to believe that Aaron Maybin wants to improve his 40 time from the combine (4.78). He had a great vertical (38 inches) and great broad jump (10’4″) as well as 10-yard speed (1.57) which are good indicators of explosion. But I’d expect him to run the 40 today and do the bench again (22 reps at Indy) to convince scouts he has top end speed to get around the edge and the strength to hold up at the point as a possible 4-3 defensive end.
