With all these trade talk reports involving Roscoe Parrish, including the latest over the weekend involving Pittsburgh I did a little digging.
According to one NFL source the Steelers are not in a strong salary cap position to be adding players. In fact the main reason they released reserve RB Gary Russell late last week was for salary cap purposes, and he only saved them $100K.
There’s no question that Parrish fits what the Steelers would need (#3 WR and return man), but indications are that Pittsburgh will need to release more players in the coming months just to sign all their draft picks.
Pittsburgh has nine picks this weekend (2 in the 5th, 2 in the 7th) so adding another veteran salary might not be in their best interest even if it fills a positional need.
I suppose the only way it might work is if the trade was player for player with the Steelers saving money on the deal.
