Even though Steelers LB Larry Foote is soon to be traded or released by the club, he doesn’t look like a fit for the Bills defensive scheme.
An ILB in Pittsburgh’s 3-4 front, Foote has been just a two down linebacker for the Super Bowl champs. Moving to a 4-3 defense would be hard enough. Asking him to step into a Tampa 2 system looks like a square peg in a round hole.
Foote simply doesn’t run well enough to play effectively in this kind of system. Frankly, I think Foote was foolish to publicly indicate he wants out of Pittsburgh.
The Steelers now with no leverage in a trade, with every club knowing Foote wants out, will probably have to release him and get nothing in return.
Of course I don’t know if a ton of teams are going to rush to scoop him up. He reportedly wants to play closer to his native Detroit, but that’s a big risk to take and a lot to give up in Pittsburgh for a two down player.
