For those that don’t know, Terrell Owens was a huge Michael Jackson fan growing up, and tweeted about Jackson’s tragic passing last week. But in Time magazine’s special commemorative edition on the King of Pop, Owens was quoted in the issue and admitted just how far his affinity for Jackson’s talents went.
“When I was 10 or 11 I entered a Michael Jackson contest in my hometown and won,” said Owens. “My mom made me the glitter socks. I had the jacket, the glove, the leather pants, the everything.”
Being just a couple of years older than T.O. I can relate. Though I never went as far as getting in the red leather jacket or glitter glove get up, I remembered watching the Jackson 5 cartoons growing up. And the Thriller album as everyone knows was huge. I still remember watching the Grammys that year when he first unveiled the moonwalk. Unbelievable.
That’s probably the Mike we’d all prefer to remember, and not the one in the tabloids the last 10 years. In fact the kid Mike of the Jackson 5 is still my personal favorite. Those guys were tight on stage.
