Bills DE Chris Ellis was one of the handful of NFL players who lectured a camp full of Hampton, Virginia grade school football players where gang association has infiltrated a lot of high school locker rooms. The Daily Press covered the event.
With talented and promising athletes getting gunned down, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spearheaded the effort. Ellis, a Hampton, VA native who played at Bethel High participated as a speaker.
“If you are tough, you don’t need a gun; your reputation precedes you,” said Ellis during his speech. “You can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends.”
The lecture reportedly left a room full of kids sitting in stunned silence. Hopefully the message got through.
