In the morning practice veteran Copeland Bryan saw most of the reps with the second team defense at right defensive end. But that changed in the afternoon session.
Chris Ellis switched roles with Bryan, with Ellis seeing more time with the second unit while Bryan took Ellis’ spot from the morning with the third defense. It looks as if the two ends will alternate those spots with the 2nd and 3rd teams each practice.
Of course this will all change when Aaron Maybin is signed as he’s expected to be that second team defensive end along with Ryan Denney.
Both Bryan and Ellis made plays today. Bryan busted up a run play in the backfield that would have gone for a tackle for loss under live conditions as he got through the line to Xavier Omon behind the line of scrimmage.
Ellis meanwhile batted down a pass by Gibran Hamdan.
