Donte Whitner lost his grandmother to cancer this past March. And he’ll be taking a small piece of the breast cancer awareness color scheme onto the field every day this season.
Whitner will be wearing a pink mouthpiece all season.
“I wear that to signify my love for her and show my support to everybody that’s dealing with cancer, going through cancer, has a loved one that’s died from cancer,” said Whitner. “So I’ll continue to wear that throughout the entire football season.”
Whitner’s grandmother was like a second mother to him.
“I didn’t have a dad growing up, so it was my mom and my grandmom,” he said. “When I lost her, I lost a piece of myself and I’ll continue to wear that mouthpiece.”
