He didn’t get to do a whole lot in Saturday night’s game by virtue of the approach Green Bay’s offense was taking at the time, but it didn’t take away from Jairus Byrd’s first NFL game action.
“They didn’t really try to go deep,” said Byrd of Green Bay’s passing game. “Everything was pretty vanilla out there so it was hard to be aggressive. They just ran a lot of quick hits and ran the ball a lot. I just got one tackle, so that was good to get some contact, but it felt good just to get out there and run around.”
Byrd, who got reps with the second and third team defenses, is an aggressive defensive back by nature and did what he could to get involved, but still saw value in his time on the field.
“You’re just making sure you’re getting your keys right, make sure my eyes are in the right place, footsteps, alignment,” he said.
Since it was his first time on the field at free safety in a game situation since high school I asked him if he was trusting what he was seeing.
“A little bit,” said Byrd. “I just like making plays so I’m trying to jump everything. I think it’ll slow down eventually, but it’s coming quick.”
