The philosophy on practice squads can vary from team to team. Some prefer to develop players with potential there, while others make sure they have players they feel they’ll be able to count on for the 53-man roster in case of injury to one of their active players. This year the Bills have players that fit more into the latter category.
Arguably six of the eight practice squad players are likely call ups should there be a shortage at their respective positions. Injury at LB and Alvin Bowen is the call up. Injury at RB and Bruce Hall is the man. Same for receiver with Hawthorne and Huggins, Mace and Stupar.
The only real developmental players are rookies Cary Harris and Nick Hennessey.
