Seeing Leodis McKelvin’s season come to a premature end due to injury hurts the Bills secondary no question. But the one it really hurts is Leodis McKelvin.
In his first year as a starter, McKelvin was going to gain a world of experience facing top receivers like Andre Johnson, Steve Smith, Roddy White and Reggie Wayne. But all of those opportunities are now lost.
Buffalo’s defensive staff in training camp mentioned more than once the importance of a player’s first season as a starter. It’s one of the biggest learning years for a player because they’re exposed to more than they ever have been about the game. It’s just a shame for McKelvin.
I’m sure that he’ll be in the meeting rooms and still studying film every week with his teammates, but those reps out on the practice field and on Sundays are valuable. McKelvin was supposed to develop into another playmaker for this Bills defense. Now it’s on hold.
