In less than five weeks, the recent 81tackleshunger fundraising campaign featuring Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Terrell Owens generated more than $130,000 for the Food Bank of Western New York – or the equivalent of 719,181 meals – thanks to the generosity of Western New Yorkers.
Of that amount, $92,000 was raised through checkout donations at 40 participating Tops Friendly Market stores in Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Niagara Counties. Donations were also accepted via mail to the Food Bank and online at www.81tackleshunger.com.
Even with the success of the 81tackleshunger campaign, however, the Food Bank is still urging Western New Yorkers to keep in mind that hunger is a concern in Western New York 365 days a year, and that the need increases as the holidays approach. Donations to the Food Bank of WNY can still be made via the website (www.81tackleshunger.com) through November 30.
