Should Jairus Byrd be named to represent the AFC in the Pro Bowl later today, many fans have wondered if he would be eligible to play in the game being that he finished the season on injured reserve.
According to the league the injured reserve designation would not preclude him from participating in the Pro Bowl. So if healthy come late January he would be able to participate.
Unfortunately that’s unlikely to be the case. Byrd had surgery Monday to repair a torn labrum in his hip. His rehab is expected to take four months, which should have him healthy and ready to resume football-related activities in late March when most NFL offseason conditioning programs begin. But he won’t be ready to play in the Pro Bowl.
