Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer played it politically correct when asked about whether he would be interested in the Bills if they wanted him to interview for the vacant head coaching position.
Schottenheimer said he would listen, but feels “he’s in a good spot” with the Jets. That according to the Associated Press.
The Jets offensive coordinator is preparing with his fellow assistants and head coach Rex Ryan for the Jets Wild Card playoff game with Cincinnati this weekend. Talking about advancing his own career in a week like this is foolhardy. So it’s not surprising that he said more than once that he’s happy with the Jets.
Of course he also did not close the door on a head coaching opportunity in Buffalo.
The Bills cannot speak with Schottenheimer this week due to league rules prohibiting teams seeking coaching candidates to talk with coaches whose current teams have Wild Card games. The Bills can speak with Schottenheimer next week before the Divisional Playoff round should the Jets advance or not provided they get written permission from the Jets organization.
Schottenheimer interviewed for the Jets head coaching job last year before it was ultimately awarded to Rex Ryan
