The “Athletes Relief Fund for Haiti,” co‐founded by NBA
legend Alonzo Mourning and Miami Heat all‐star Dwyane Wade, has received pledges totaling more than $800K from the sports community since its unique inception last Friday. Among those donating was Bills WR Terrell Owens.
Owens was one of seven NFL players to donate to the cause. Mourning has made two trips to the earthquake ravaged island nation and is grateful for the contributions of his fellow professional athletes.
“The response from our colleagues has been overwhelming,” said Mourning. “We accept these donations with complete confidence that Project Medishare will put each dollar to quick and efficient use. Having been in Haiti, I have seen their work in action.”
Mourning and Wade launched the initiative with the intent to form a united front within the world of professional sports and to rally collective support to fund immediate relief efforts.
