Last week Bills LB Kawika Mitchell openly asked for a defensive coordinator that “bleeds violence.” Now he’s publicly suggested a defensive coordinator by name.
In a recent twitter post Mitchell tossed out Jim Leavitt, tweeting the following.
Ka_Mitchell55 Bills should consider Jim Leavitt for DC. I wouldn’t mind.
Leavitt, for those that don’t know, is the former head coach at the University of South Florida, as well as Mitchell’s former head coach. South Florida is the linebacker’s alma mater.
Leavitt was fired by the school recently after an investigation revealed that he had struck a player in the locker room during halftime of a game against Louisville on Nov. 21.
He reportedly tried to cover up the incident, which is what ultimately led to his dismissal.
Leavitt was successful at South Florida with a 94-57 career record with a team he built from scratch in 1997 as a 1-AA independent to a BCS member of the Big East Conference just nine years later, which included a ranking as high as #2 in the country at one point.
His teams have also been among the most penalized in football. Leavitt’s coaching history is primarily as a linebackers coach and defensive coordinator before he became head coach at USF.
