The list of premier nose tackles with the franchise tag is growing as the second was tagged in the last two days.
San Francisco’s Aubrayo Franklin was given the non-exclusive franchise tag late Tuesday. The non-exclusive tag means another team can sign Franklin to an offer sheet, but they would surrender two first-round picks, if the 49ers chose not to match. Franklin joins Vince Wilfork, with Casey Hampton likely to get tagged in the coming days.
Green Bay’s Ryan Pickett is considered the next in line and has even stated he’s expecting to get tagged. Feb. 25 is the deadline for NFL clubs to make use of their franchise and transition tags.
